Tools for grease drive shaft and other parts

Anyone can recommend the tools for lubricate the driveshaft and chassis? My 2017 OR has never been serviced for this during the free maintenance. Wonder if there's a detailed instruction how to do it.

 

Does your 2017 have a greaseable drive shaft?

 

Don't know. Saw somewhere before that new 4x4 models have non-greasable rear shaft but the front is still greasable. I also need to grease other parts too.

 

get under it and have a look. look for the zerks at the u-joints. may not be exactly like this one, but similar. all you will need is a grease gun and some grease.

 

You'll at least have greaseable u-joints at the front. All you need is a decent grease gun, and a set of sockets (to remove a small shield).

Some guys use a needle nozzle to get at one of the zerks that is trickier to access, but I had no trouble getting to it without the need nozzle.

 

I use Lucas Marine Grease (NLG #2) on everything. Drive shaft, lawn tractor, boat trailer etc. Some people get several guns, other swap out the grease in a single gun between lubs. I have one gun, use one grease on everything. I forget the brand (don’t think its important) but its one that takes the large 14 oz. cartridge, and has a larger handle so I can pump some pressure. A flexible grease hose/head helps getting in tight places.

Not trying to hijack (since I am a 2nd gen), but I have same question. I am buying

superlube grease today for my UCA's and was wondering if I can use on drive shaft? I know the manual says lithium based grease should be used, but not sure if the synthetic lube from superlube qualifies or not?

No. Superlube is PTFE base; you need a NLGI #2 lithium or calcium sulphonate base grease.

 

Not much too it.
Clean the zerk.
Keep pumping grease until you see new grease appear out all 4 seals.
Wipe off the excess.

 

Any other parts need to be greased except drive shaft? Ball joint, tie rods ends etc.? I've got the grease gun and Valvoline synthetic NLGI #2 grease. Ready to grease them this weekend. It would be nice if someone can post pictures/videos of the locations of the zerks.

there are two types of grease. I bought this one with Moly:

I did it the easy way. Went to my Toyota dealer for an oil/filter change and asked them to grease the drive shaft's 2 zerks and I will pay extra. They did and did not charge me extra. Great dealer.

 

its a #2 grease it should be fine, MOBIL1 is the same type of synthetic grease although its not a lithium base people are using it no problem as far as I can tell

 

You dont want moly for bearings, which is what u-joints are. Moly is for surfaces that slide against each other.

I would recommend spending a few more bucks for a good grease gun. I have been using this one:

I use amsoil nlgi2 for everything with a zerk

 

Excuse my knowledge but relatively new owner coming up on first service...Do 2wds have any zerks that I need to give few shots? I haven't been under it enough yet to look. Im going to do all services because the dealers within distance i'd be willing to drive to suck.

 

only way to tell is examine the universal joints to see if they have grease nipples attached,these are pretty handy for a 2wd with only 2 grease zerks if u have to DIY your own grease job, most Toyota dealers wont/don't do grease jobs
