I want to swap my rear window

I have a solid glass window that I want to install on my truck. I can't seem to find a IDY tutorial on how to remove the stock one. does someone have a link or instructions?

I am looking to refurbish or replace the rubber sealer around the whole window (lots of sun-weathering) tried some of the stuff used to blackout tires but its just not holding black
do you have a similar issue with that outer part?
replacing that would require to take out the window as well

 

Quick search of old posts and saw that @btbowie pulled his before. He may have some advice.

Generally, people use a "piano wire saw" to cut them out (Autozone, O'Reilley's). You use a tool to push the wire through the sealer, then one guy inside and one outside and you see-saw the wire through the sealer. I think others have use utility knives. I haven't pulled one on a taco, but windshields on other vehs the wire method has worked for me.

IT IS EASY TO DAMAGE YOUR PAINT doing this removal. Me, I'd tape it off with some heavy weight tape. Put on some painters, low tack tape first then put some heavy tape over that.

 

I use chemical guys VRP. that and I don't take my truck out unless its for meets, photo shoots or shows. for the most part it's a garage queen.

Former glass installer here.

If it's the rubber gasket type, it's really simple.
You will need 2 tools.

One is called a "bone". It's exactly like a tongue depresser but made of heavy plastic.

The other is a "hook" tool. Commonly used by glass installers.

Another easy way for the install is some silicone spray and a very thin but strong piece of heavy string.

I'm headed out the door for work atm. Just do a quick Google search on removing and installing a rear slider and you'll get the info you need.

any idea what the approximate cost of replacement for rear sliding windows OEM glass might be (I am sure it varies by model year), does it have to be the entire piece or each separate partition glass can be replaced individually

Windows from pre taco era fit perfect back & forth believe me I’m a former mini trucker. You can install/remove the window all by yourself it’s pretty easy, to get it out use your feet and put em up against the back window and push slowly maybe have a window catcher/ other person if it’s your first time. To install, some people wrap paracord around the seal on the window and pull the seal into the cab with window and it works a charm. Some guys go liberal with armor all around the seal and use a taped flathead to pull in most of the seal... it’s really pretty easy don’t psych yourself out of it. You tube will help if you need a visual good luck.
