SO no judging, at lunch time I was making a turkey sammich and decided to give the Buffalo Trace a try again. It wasn't as bad as when I first opened it. It seemed a little more mellow today, still not, not burny :) but a little more mellow and because of that I could actually taste some flavors in it. Would I be flogged for trying to mix it with some and if no what would you suggest?

I'd say try a splash of water or one very small ice cube and see what it does for you, and go from there.

I don't think anybody here would judge ya or bust your chops for changing up a pour. Don't let the snobs tell you how to enjoy your drink.

If I'm not in the mood for a neat pour I'll add an ice cube. If I'm out to party and drink like it's cool... I mix cheap stuff with cream soda.

I only really sip neat at home. It's hard to carry around a glencairn while you're wheeling or camping. Not impossible, but it's easier to fill up a tumbler with your favorite concoction.

Switch to Eagle Rare if you haven't tried it and can find it. Same Buffalo Trace mash bill #1 just aged 10 years and allowed to mellow more.

Coats about $5 a bottle more.

I tried it the first time with a little water (had read that) and oddly it became super bland, I might have done too much. :)

Really only takes a drop or three, usually.

My grandfather, on the other hand, buys really cheap scotch (Scoresby, I think it's called) and then splits it 50/50 with water. I brought some 12Y/O Macallan up with me a few weeks ago for something of a 'farewell' drink and it just about broke my heart to watch him drown it, lol. I brought some Famous Grouse, too, and he said that he actually preferred that to the Mac :notsure:

Ya I think I may try it with a little less or maybe mixing, I'm normally a Tequila drinker so it surprised me that this was so hot, then again I usually drink good tequila so that bite isn't as pronounced.

What are you drinking it in? Switching from a Glencairn to a rocks glass, for instance, will let more of the alcohol evaporate (especially if you swirl it around a little bit) and let you get past the burn-y part.

If I use ice I use small busted cubes. But yup, the best way to drink any drink is "the way you like it" screw the rest. If you want lasers in yours, who are we to stop you! just take pics!

That's the stuff. Super hard to come by in some/most spots. Never even seen a shelf label for them here.

That's the one! I'd trade a unopened box/bottle of Hibiki Harmony for it. Or, maybe there is something that you can't get up there that I can get???

To preface this picture, I can't overstate how much of a Mavs fan I am. Had season tickets for as long as I could make the trip to Dallas 41 times a year. Camped out for playoff tickets during many seasons. Been to all the big games. Paid $400 for a $25 seat by myself to watch them in the 2006 NBA Finals (only to watch them lose the series). Saw them set a record for first half scoring in a playoff game. Watched Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry own LeBron and the Heat in 2011. Showed up to the championship parade at 2 a.m. the night before. Watched Dirk score 30k, pass Wilt, and watched him play his last game in Dallas after 21 years.

A Dallas bourbon club did a private selection of Buffalo Trace and this is what they did. I traded in to the bottle.

I know OWA has been a hot topic here lately, but that's exactly what I traded away for this.

In addition to the two Booker's from my daughter's birth years, this becomes the third bottle that will remain sealed for the foreseeable future. Won't mean much to most folks, but I'm super giddy. It'll be a show piece for me that maybe only my Mavs fan friends will appreciate. It's the little things in life (and whiskey).

This post makes me so happy. I'm very lucky to have one of these bottles with my name on it as well. I spent many years all over DFW, and was there for the Mavs highs and lows. Some of my fondest memories are of times spent in Reunion Arena and American Airlines Center, while witnessing my sports hero accomplish the impossible.

    MFFL!

Sometimes it is the little things that make us smile. :)

I’ve got a Red Wings jersey from a friend that played for them that most people don’t know. It’s in my closet and has been for many years now.
