    Good afternoon all,

I’d like to get some clear information about what type of setup calls for a regear. I have the 2019 trd off-road AT. I recently upgraded to the 265/75r16 Goodyear wrangler ultraterrain tires that are exclusive to discount tire/America’s tire. The tires weigh somewhere around 51lbs, so definitely heavier than stock but just a mild size upgrade. I personally don’t think that my power/mileage is horrible but I will be using the truck to explore and get out to more up/down mountainous terrain with the family. Is regearing more necessary for the added weight of the tire, or the circumference? I have read though hundreds of pages of regearing threads, it as you all know, the information is always back and forth and confusing. Would regearing to 4.30 or 4.88 from ecgs serve any real benefit to me? I’m working on installing a fox level 2 suspension for a mild lift of an inch or so in the front, but stock height kept in the rear. I won’t be adding any heavy mods other than sliders and skids. Would the 4.30/4.88 option serve any benefit, or would sticking to the stock 3.91 be safer? Sorry, I know this topic is discussed and overly discussed, but I’m trying to get a clear answer! Thanks so much!

If you are ok with the power/mileage then there is your answer. It would be a benefit to offset both the weight and circumference increase, but at quite a cost. I would think a majority that have it done went taller than you did and are not happy with the decrease in power/mileage, and therefore the cost is worth it. Since you seem fine with it as is, I suggest spending that money elsewhere!

Being that the truck is new, I don’t drive too aggressively, but I also haul the family around sometimes, so I drive pretty conservatively anyway. If moving to new gear ratio would give me more pep/power for day to day driving and better power for time spent in various terrain involving elevation change, I don’t mind the cost. I guess my question is more about the feel of day to day driving? If regearing gives me a more powerful and more responsive truck, I’d do it. If the gains are so minor or not that noticeable since my tire upgrade is “minor”, then I’d pass. Thanks @sakibomb for the response!

You’re running the same size tire as 90% of the members here. Your mpg will go down with slightly bigger, more aggressive, and heavier tires. It is what it is.

You do NOT need to regear.

If you bump up to 35” tires, or 37s, then yes it’ll probably help you out.

Cool. I’m not opposed to spending money for benefit, but I’m not into wasting my money unnecessarily. Thanks for the reply.

I’m sure some would argue that there is some benefit to it, but does that small benefit justify the cost? I don’t think so. I don’t think the benefits would even be noticeable with your tire size. It’s not a huge jump. It was about an inch bigger

Yes I watched this video too. I feel like anyone would take a more responsive truck over the stock feel with regearing if they can afford to do so. I just don’t want to create any issues or howl/whine if I regear.

On the contrary. Some owners posted that the diff howl/ whine became non existent after they regeared
