Hey fellas. I am driving myself nuts researching the '16 to make sure it is right for me given high resale price. It is OR Double Cab '16 with all the features, tech pkg plus JBL and leather heated, roof rack, extender, etc. 50K on it. Couple thoughts I am asking advice on.

1 - ATF issue concerning me. Guy hasn't had it checked b/c no shifting issues (so he says, and I cant feel on a test drive.) but if it is low... 50K miles on low fluid = issues perhaps?. Any advice?

2- I am 6'2 plus. The car has a sunroof. It is tight man on headroom. Any taller guys experienced here... do you adjust or is it a deal breaker b/c damn I want to be comfortable in this bad boy for years. And back bench seats are good but are they roomy enough for 2-3 people on long trip?

3 - Anything else to keep in mind before big purchase? Guy has all service records and I checked them with VIN on the site. Only a bad air filter recall and wind noise at 70mph+ from the driver side window.

Thanks a lot for any info/advice.

Stu (possibly a future Taco slinger.)

You’d flush the trans at 60k so just go ahead and get it done and don’t stress about it, it’s less than $300 to have that done at Toyota. The backseat isn’t too comfortable for longer trips, well your mileage may vary on that because you have leather. I’d say two adults is the max for the backseat. 50k miles isn’t bad considering the year, but you’ll need a couple things done at the 60k service so you might want to get a quote from Toyota for that before making up your mind.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

If there’s not enough room, then maybe look for one without a sunroof? And it might be worth it to take to the dealer for a trans fluid check for piece of mind if you’re that concerned with it.

haha... nice one. Thks for the advice. I just was concerned with all gear slipping stuff I read on low fluid. And if its been low long term effects could be an issue. And yes great advice to take for a long drive instead of 15 minutes. Right at 60K with more work. I'll look into it. Doubt the guy gives me a deal based on that... but...

One more thing. Guy has the original tires still after 50K. That seem right? Tread seems ok but if needing change will roll that into the price.

I had a ‘16 and it had a lot of issues. The wind noise was with both front doors anytime there was a crosswind or on the interstate. The transmission didn’t shift right, even after the “fix” done at the dealership. The truck would hesitate when trying to just drive normal at 45. The truck would even lurch when backing into the driveway and garage. My foot would be on the brake the entire time. Had to raise hell with the dealership after owning it for a year and multiple issues for them to trade the truck in for a ‘17. Had the ‘17 for 14 months and traded it in. Now I have a ‘10 and am much happier. I won’t buy another model of new generations until a few years in and they have all the bugs worked out. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your decision!

Welcome! If you are concerned with overall reliability get a 2ND Gen. I liked the interior and all the updated gadgetry better in the 3RD Gen, but after a lot of research I bought a 2015.

Not sure if the seats will adjust how you want it to. The back seats can fit 2 or 3 people, but not comfortably unless they're children.

New member here as well, just bought a ‘16 Limited at 50k miles. I have had it for about a month now and after about 1500 miles later, have not had any issues with lurching, shifting, wind noise, etc. I do have a sun roof and although it is not an issue with me (only 5’9), I can see it being an issue for anybody much taller than me. The only “issue” I have found is that when traveling around 30mph uphill, the truck likes to hover with a very slight vibration. It feels as though it wants to shift but won’t. Give it some gas and it shifts and you’re good.

Just my two cents. Maybe I got lucky with not having many issues but all in all, I highly recommend the truck!

Thanks for all the input gents.

This truck is 50K miles in and no issues from all Toyota service records online (every 5K he brought it in) just wind noise. I'd assume many issues would rear their ugly heads by 50K but not sure. Is that a correct assumption?

Best of luck to all Taco captains.
