I think Toyota will combat that with additional cooling and block strengthening. I predict that the TT 2GR in the new Tundra will be a low end torque monster. It will make at least what the LS500 does. But probably more, IMO

Uggghhh........I’m surprised they haven’t all blown their own brains out by now. Believe me, they’ve heard it, they just don’t, or can’t care.....all of the endless whining had deafened their ears.

TOYOTA.......if you’re listening, I like my engine and transmission.....sorry about the other fellas..... they’re new and all....

Yeah, but diesels give everyone lung cancer, so it’s kinda a wash.

Europe is moving away from diesels, and it is being outright banned in many cities, so your info is old news. The particulate filters and DEF systems are not to save the atmosphere, they are to keep your kids from being killed slowly by diesel nano-particles.

Can you image if the freeways in and out of LA we’re all full of those piss-washed diesel exhaust systems? Good grief.....what a terrible idea that would be. No doubt a bunch of selfish half-brained gonads would be doing DPF deletes on them for even more torque.....cancer-shmancer.

Diesel is over. Electric hybrid and full electric will hopefully displace it in the next several years. Toyota is wise not to offer diesel vehicles in the North American market. I thank them for that on behalf of my kids.

Simple EV vehicles lol not one thing, one, is not controlled by software in a Tesla. Idk about you or the rest of America, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say 99.753% of us are incapable of servicing the software of a Tesla at home.

That’s my biggest gripe with EV, the electric motors are fine how about putting a vehicle out that doesn’t behave like an early access game on steam.

we wont see a new power train in this generation. First the sales are to good. This drivetrain meets there emissions and longevity requirements. As much as we may bitch about the tranny.(I said tranny L.O.L.) they haven't had the issues that GM has had with there 8speed. Also it competes very well with-in its market. We can wish want and hope but this is how it is.

Right, Toyota seems much more interested in Hybrids and or Fuel Cells over full EV.

You sound like you're out of tune with how the OEM's and overall market is trending. I'm glad to see people are only too willing to keep peddling around those stereotypes and outdated perceptions.

Diesel isn't anywhere close to being dead. Some European cities are banning older diesels; the newer ones with emissions controls are no more harmful than the fuel-sucking gasoline v8's and turbo v6's, arguably less so.

Everything from the backup generators at hospitals, to the regional buses and commercial trucking, container ships, to the industrial vehicles that work behind the scenes in most of the major industries runs on diesel. The EV transition is a pipe dream for the time being...until they can figure out energy storage/range and recharge times...never mind that our power grid is a mess and still mostly dependent on, wait for it....fossil fuels.

    agreed.

seems like many forget about the footprint it takes to make EV even financially feasible. more batteries, more recharge stations, more solar, wind, water turbines etc.....

you're talking about a MAJOR shift in american transportation and attempting to eliminate consumable fuels when there is a tried and proven gasoline alternative that takes less manufacturing and burns more efficiently than gasoline. i bet you see diesels in tacomas before ev trucks sold to the masses. dodge tried it with that eco0-diesel which was a complete failure, and no one else has even tried to do it besides the new ford ranger.
the epa needs to get realistic about long term attainable goals first before conversations like this even happen. the def and dpf crap is a waste and creates more long term pollution than needed. we can run diesels at an extremely high efficiency already, but we dont because the epa makes these outlandish stipulations manufacturers have to follow. its stupid. the eu uses them with good results.

i need to stop drinking and getting on the forums.

In the '80s we said Toyo., Isuzu diesels were 0-60, 2 cigarettes and a cup of coffee. Still had their charms though. They stank too.

Agreed. I really like what Tesla is doing in the motor and battery department, but that really conflicts with how I feel about the rest of it. I'm a simple person, I want simple controls and simple computers. If its got an always on internet connection and all that self driving hardware, I'm going to have to take a pass. Give me something as simple as my taco with a modern electric drivetrain and I'd be so happy. Unfortunately this is the direction with _all_ cars these days, I feel like DIY is going to be on the decline as things get more and more computerized with tighter and tighter tolerances.

it will progress. there are guys just starting to tinker with the tesla systems and they are all old school gearheads just adapting with the times. if you have an instagram there is a guy i ran into @teslasandtruck he has a long travel offroad truck with a custom tesla drivetrain and is also finishing up a 65 cobra replica on a full electric system and they both MOVE
