Well I got my a K&N sticker so Im pushing 350 rn

 

Ok so just to cap things off, should I be using the 87 or the 89 at the gas station? None of the gas stations near me sell 91. Which one is the posted one here in the USA; RON, MON, SOR, or AKI?

You guys are really over thinking this. All gas pumps in the US and Canada are marked with the (R+M)/2 octane number which may also be called AKI. This is an average of the RON and MON numbers. There is no SOR; that sentence in the manual, "Select octane rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher." simply means you should choose an octane of 87 or higher here or it's equivalent in other countries of 91 RON.

Gas in the US rated at 91 octane is, IIRC, roughly equivalent to 95 octane in places that use the RON rating.

I love it! In every auto forum I've belonged to, people always post that they just bought their vehicles and when reviewing the owners manual, they conclude that the manufacturer has no idea when it comes to things like fuel and oil changes etc. Because they're smarter than the folks who designed and built their autos.

 

Some are.......not everyone gets or wants to design cars.......dunno bout here though...

 

I use to buy gas at Casey's convenience stores here in Illinois. They buy the cheapest gas they can buy to make a profit on. Once in awhile my '03 Dakota would die at a stop light or stop sign. I just put a bottle of HEET in the tank and all was good for a couple more months. LOL!

 

It appears there were no dumpster fires last night......

When the crow gets banned the shit talk stops.......had to watch stupid tv and go to sleep early due to no entertainment

Op. This may sound radical but it will be a very Fast and Furious theory. First add NOS. 2 of the big ones of course. Then add the obligatory said NOS decal. Once this is all done you find your destination. You proceed to spray your NOS until you reach said destination. In theory you would waste less gas & have more fun getting there because you would be driving your truck less time.



















On a serious note my GMC hates HEB gas no matter the grade. So you are on to something with the gas brand playing a roll in the performance if your engine

Research Octane Number (RON)[edit]
The most common type of octane rating worldwide is the Research Octane Number (RON). RON is determined by running the fuel in a test engine with a variable compression ratio under controlled conditions, and comparing the results with those for mixtures of iso-octane and n-heptane.

Motor Octane Number (MON)[edit]
Another type of octane rating, called Motor Octane Number (MON), is determined at 900 rpm engine speed instead of the 600 rpm for RON.[1] MON testing uses a similar test engine to that used in RON testing, but with a preheated fuel mixture, higher engine speed, and variable ignition timing to further stress the fuel's knock resistance. Depending on the composition of the fuel, the MON of a modern pump gasoline will be about 8 to 12 octane lower than the RON, but there is no direct link between RON and MON. Pump gasoline specifications typically require both a minimum RON and a minimum MON.[citation needed]

Anti-Knock Index (AKI) or (R+M)/2[edit]
In most countries in Europe (also in Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand) the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2. It may also sometimes be called the Posted Octane Number (PON).
