I'm new to towing with my taco. I just had a brake controller installed and the brake pedal is hard to push. Is that normal?

No, not normal. The pedal should feel exactly like it did without the brake controller.

Is the extra hard pedal happening when the engine is running?

Do the brake lights work now?

You have the towing package or is everything new? I have the towing package and when i installed my brake controller it had no effect on my pedal.
It also needs to know how hard you're pushing on the pedal. The brakes that it's controlling vary their force with respect to how hard you're pushing on the brake pedal. If you don't have the towing package, maybe they added something to the brake pedal.

There should be no mechanical differences with the truck with or without a brake controller. Brake pedal feel should absolutely NOT change.

Thank you. I figured it out. The installer wrapped s tie-rap around the brake pedal linkage to secure the wires from the brake controller. Just relocated the tie-rap.

    Wow.

That’s as bad as the time I found wiring wrapped around and tied to the steering shaft of a truck. (Peterbilt 379 - so lots of accessible steering shaft)
