Easy install, took longer to measure everything perfect than to actually cut the hood and rivet them on. Make sure you cover hood+windshield with damp beach towels like they suggest-the flying sparks from cutting the holes will definitely etch into paint or glass and leave it permanently hazy.
Great company to deal with; give a LEO/EMS discount if that helps anybody. Maybe military too?
9x14 is what these ones measure. Looked about perfect for sizing compared to the body lines of the hood and bracing ribs underneath.

I see you have the supercharger as well, so you noticed a considerable effect on lower intake temps with these hood vents?

Considering this myself, once summer hits here my intake temps skyrocket with how hot the charger gets under the hood

I didn’t measure that before/after as these went on long before the super charger. But they move some hot air! On hot days you can see the heat waves coming out at stoplights; wave your arm above the hood and you can feel the warm air blowing out. With the stock fan blowing this gives an easier escape path for the dispelled hot air to vent.

With these on, plus the snorkel and (later) 11# of boost I never had a heat problem. Rest of cooling system was 100% stock save for external trans cooler (just done to prevent the pink milkshake).
We loaded the 4runner heavy-full armor, rack, 100# dog, 100# girlfriend, 200# me and full camping gear. Crawling around at altitude in the hot Cali summers and never had a single “uh oh it’s getting a little hot” moment. Ran air conditioning too.

The only downside is cutting up your hood. Never had a problem with rain getting in there; yea I’m sure a tiny bit did. But the engine sees water every time I run through a creek or puddle anyways?

Had it in big snowstorms skiing all winter too, no problems. Actually kinda cool example of them working-the hot air melts the snow above the vents first.

IMHO it’s a cheap, easy no downside kinda mod-unless you REALLY hate the look. I personally dig it.

Our K9 guys all have these to keep the squad cars cool running AC for the fur missiles in back.

    'Fur Missles' LOL

Sounds like I have a future mod on the to do list!

I noticed a difference in intake temps just with the snorkel pulling in air from outside the wheel well/engine bay so I'm sure this helps a bit too.

    I dig the look myself

Alright fam. Need some help. Should have snagged a fsm. But I'm hoping the collective knowledge of tw can get me through this.

I'm putting new boots on my CVs and have come to a "roadblock". The timmy the toolman video showed a lock ring at the end of the CV. However it was on a 4 runner. I'm not seeing one at the end. Its below it. See photos.

    20190518_130243.jpg
Should I just keep using the punch to tap the top mechanism off? Tried a little but I didnt get any movement.
Is there a trick here I'm not seeing?
I want to make sure this is right before I proceed.

    Thanks in advance

yeah but it appears that just keeps it from falling down. i want it to go in the other direction. Also, i can't get it out with the lock ring pliers i have. it just keeps slipping off.

Thank you. Downloading it now. Had to come to something bigger than a phone.

well.. i guess i'm doing it right. guess i just gotta tap on.

    (b) Remove the inboard joint tulip from the drive shaft.
    4. REMOVE TRIPOD JOINT FROM DRIVE SHAFT
    (a) Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

    Update:
Got the snap ring moved back. Yay!
There is play in the tripod but it wont come off. It's as if there is something preventing it.

    Has anyone done this before?
How hard do I need to hammer this thing to get it off (yes I know not to hit the rollers)?

I'm using a steel punch rn. But think I might go get some brass because I dont want to mess it up if I have to put more force on It.

Ok... so, the fsm does no mention this step.

Clip 1 needs to be removed.
    20190518_140105.jpg
Tulip or tripod needs to be hammered back revealing a second clip.
    20190518_144229.jpg
Remove clip (finding it after it sails across your workspace)
    20190518_145021.jpg

    proceed

Great write up. Found it earlier when looking for that hiccup.
Yeah just finished cleaning everything. Think I'm going to try and order the moog kit. As stated none of the rings are the same in the kit. You cant put one in the wrong spot but it's not worth having 2 boot clamp crimp tools.

Thanks for the link. Hope it helps others as well.

Also keeping a spare CV on hand when wheeling. I cant imagine having to do this on the trail. Swapping a CV. Easy. This would be a nightmare lol

received_666450787117864.jpg Well s runners are too hard and expensive to get, so I'm gonna make my own. Meet the new project "Traction 404" aka traction not found
The truck to the left has a 3.4 and wiring harness I'm stealing for it. Then just gotta get an r150. Gonna be sick, of course a turbo will be paring to the 3.4 after I build it up a little
