rusht: thats awesome man! i posted this pic in another thread, but this is my setup for the time being; weighted dc sports knob coupled with hurst short shifter. i usually have a twm performance shift knob equipped but was disappointed to find out that apparently the went dark overnight...or atleast from the last time i bought from them. excellent products, dont know why they closed up shop.

This seems to be the story of the manuals in my area. I spent the last two years trying to pick one up used. Every time I found one I'd call the dealer to set up a test drive, and literally as soon as my key was in the lock on my way out they'd call me back and say someone else drove off with it. Happened twice in one day once. It was either that, or the dealers thought they were sitting on gold, trying to sell a '17 TRD OR with 28k miles and questionable holes drilled in the dash, exposed wiring on the floor, and dented/scratched up aftermarket skid plate (Obviously someone's toy, not daily.) for $38,000. They acted insulted when I said I couldn't see myself driving off with that for more than $30k. I finally ended up using the next year to save up a good enough down payment and ordering one new. Picked up my '19 a little over a week ago. I'm hooked.

OP, if you want to get a good deal wait until they're selling 2020's and you'll either be able to find a '19 used, or new for a decent price. Or, go the route I did and save up and order one. Well worth it, and after 450 miles so far I feel no regrets.

Don't listen to the boosters. If you enjoy a proper manual experience, go buy a proper manual car. The Tacoma is clunky as hell, the transmission is weak, as with most Toyota manual transmissions, the stock clutch discs suck, the bearings suck, and because the engine got taken off the lexus/camry spare parts shelf and is DESIGNED from the ground up for a automatic transmission, you will have no torque on the bottom end, so enjoy the 12 second 0-60's. That's why the auto guys are all howling about how the engine revs to 5k anytime they give it gas. It's DESIGNED for that. Sorry buddy, I prefer being realistic to being a mindless cheerleader. And yeah, I own one in stick.

Bummer, keep looking, you might luck out and find what you want on the lot.

I wasn't even seriously looking for a new truck, had a '15 Sport with auto that I was pretty happy with, except for the every once in a while "darn, I like this truck a lot, but I kinda wish it had a manual" moment.

Stopped in at the dealer because they had a nice looking '18 cement Sport with auto, tech and premium sitting out front, plus they had been calling me with generous offers for my truck, so I figured I'd check out the third gen, and it was nice with the auto, loved the color and all the new toys, but it wasn't "I gotta have it" nice with the auto...then the sales guy says "hey, we just got one in just like this with a manual, would you be interested in that?"
Oh, really? What are the odds, the exact truck I would have ordered, just sitting there in the back. Left with it a couple hours later.

A clutch in any vehicle will last a very long time,...….as long as you don't let anybody else drive it.

Manuals probably don’t get stolen as much, so few know how to drive them!

And before one of the wiseacres comes in and starts the whole "you don't know how to drive stick blah blah blah", I've driven stick for 16 years (13 of those years exclusively), over 500k miles on manual transmissions, only one clutch ever replaced on any car (and the clutch was nearly at 200k), have driven sticks in Porsche's, GTI's, Euro diesels, Honda's, Subaru's, Ford's, economy clunkers, and everything in between. The Tacoma stick is probably the worst of them, considering the cost of the vehicle and the hooplah about Toyota quality, is self-destructing at just over 50k, and will probably need a new clutch disc, pressure plate, and bearing, like other people on this forum have experienced, and like the 2nd gen owners have a long and bitter experience with. NOT worth it.

That is grounds for a divorce (kidding). But in all honesty a manual 3rd gen drives 100x better. Its actually a fun truck to drive.

It will last well over a 100K but depends on how hard you are on it. But some people's have also failed pre-maturely. I have a 2016 and I have over 120K miles and I do alot of offroading so I haven't been kind to my clutch at all, and I've even gotten it hot enough to smell a few times. My 2¢. I will never trade my manual though, ever. I would have paid 10 grand more for my truck if that was the only way to get a manual. Cheers!

Is that a short throw from core shifter?

toyotafanforlife: yeah man. ole boy makes an excellent product. and his customer service is on point too if you have more specific questions pertaining. the whole assembly gets switched out unlike the trd or the urd counterparts. if youre content with your shifts now. trust me, it goes to a whole new dynamic when you install this. makes you fall in love with driving the rig again.
