    Just found out his surgery is happening before noon. He’s going to have to get a steel rod implanted as both the forearm bones were multiple fractures.

    Yeah. It’s pretty surreal. I think the thing that really shocked me the most was how quickly everything changed. One second I’m about ready to throw some burgers on the grill and the next I’m sprinting down the street to my son lying in a bloody puddle. Still can’t wrap my head around it.
    Fortunately he’ll be ok. He’s got a difficult road ahead though.

    Forgive me if I'm out of my lane offering unsolicited advice here.

    It's gonna be a while before you wrap your brain around a tragedy like this. As someone who deals with tragedy on a daily basis I see this kinda thing fairly frequently. What we advise the parents of critically ill or injured kids in the emergency department is to instead try to focus on the recovery.

    This is gonna be hard on you and your child. Prepare to give your kid the best damn summer of his life. "Yeah I was in a cast all summer when I was 11 but we..."

    You are going to get through this. We are all rooting and praying for ya.
