Truck didn't have an AC compressor in it when I bought it a few months ago. Besides installing a compressor and refrigerant, what prep should I do. I have no idea how long it hasn't worked. I have never worked on AC units before except adding refrigerant. Thanks.

You’ll have to pull a vacuum for quite some time once you get the compressor installed. Make sure the systems tight & you should have no problems.

    Compressor and refridgerant is easy.

The condensor with fan/wiring relay is hard.

The evaporator in the heater core is an absolute bastard.

Make sure you put in a new receiver dryer. Esp if its been open to the air for a long time.

    Assuming our truck have one.

Ok if the AC lines were capped off you might get lucky !!

If the system has been open to the Air this could be a very long and expensive adventure of replacing one part after another.

As creepy crawling and flying insects just love exploring such places .

Most Shops doing this most likely would quote to replace everything .

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I misspoke. The truck has an a/c compressor. The previous owner said it needed one, so I assumed it had been removed and didn't bother looking until after posting. The a/c makes an awful squealing noise when its turned on. Didn't some research and learned that later model 1st gens have idler pully issues that create a loud squeal when the bearings go. Hoping that's my problem.
