This is the connector for AC control in both variants, however that won't really matter. Read on.

I hate to be "that guy" to nail the last hammer in the coffin to this idea, but check this:

There are separate air mix servos for passenger and driver... makes sense for dual zone right?

Trucks without dual zone will only have one air mix servo.

I wouldn't care so much about dual temp zones as I would about just having auto temp. I have the manual controls. It would be great to just set a temp and forget about it.

I think also asthetically the digital read outs would look a lot more sharp too

So we can't add the dual climate control, but we can add the parking sensors...go on . How about those blind spot monitors?

What I REALLY need is dual climate control in the house. I think I married a polar bear.

So looks like this died. How about something more challenging. Like adding birdseye view from the highlander. :ducks:

Has anyone tried to replace the manual controls with the auto controls? Are all the connections there? Does it work?

I think the conclusion was that it's not possible without heavy modification. But it was interesting to say the least... I have this issue (1st world, I know) b/c my wife and I are never on the same temp scale (she's hot, I'm cold or vice versa) so regulating the air is always "fun". If this were something plug and play it would be a fun little project, but not for more than that!

I know in the OVTune threads, he's mentioned that truck without the CRAWL stuff have the code in the ECU ready to do enable CRAWL so I'm waiting for the mod for folks w/o CRAWL to plug in and activate that code in the ECU. Was hoping the dual climate stuff could be as easy if not easier. I'll live with the "pain" of closing vents on one side or the other. The HUMANITY of all this hard work... hahaha

Would be great to enable crawl and use better placement of the controls. There's no reason to lose the glasses holder for that monstrosity of a knob and a couple buttons.

    this and that...
i sourced a dual climate control unit strictly for the digital readout and can say that if your truck did not come with dual zone from the factory you have an extra harness running to your climate control. i tried plugging in just the one harness that both pieces had in common and the hazards instantly came on; nothing else worked. i then tried pluging one harness into the dual zone unit and the bigger harness into my stock unit. hazards now work as intended and ac can be controlled again. no functionality from the dual zone unit. at this point im trying to find a way to get power to the dual zone unit. i been following the tundra write up and if you take the whole gist behind it, that write up should apply to our trucks. supposedly getting your hands on an ac amplifier assembly will bring fuctionality to the dual zone unit but will act as manual mode all time if you upgrsde nothing else, which is ok with me cause i just want the digital read out at the end of the day. another variance could be the year difference, not too sure about that one. my truck is a 2019 trd sport. the dual zone is from a 2017 limited.

It'd be awesome if we could just get automatic control without dual zone support. If the OEM parts can't do that for us, I'm sure it could be technically done with a cheap temperature sensor, a Raspberry Pi/Ardiuno, and a thorough understanding of the CANbus for Tacos.

@MESO: hey wassup, did you end up figuring this out? im in the same mindset you are...or were pertaining to the digital read out and would be stoked to see if you ended up finishing this mod

@Nitori: i noticed that you were metioning that youre kinda a wiring guru here. would you have any insight in how you convert the manuals double wiring harness to the dual zone single wiring harness. sorry if that doesnt make sense. the manual climate and the dual climate both share the same harness plugin, but when you plug the dual zone into the truck only the hazards come on, like i was mentioning above. i havent look too much more into it since that day but ill leave a pic below of the two different climate controls (1st: manual, 2nd: dual zone.) the two different plugins on the side are push button start and 4wd selector and arent part of the climate control assembly.

What the hazard lights coming on makes me think is that Toyota uses the same connector but with different harness wiring layouts based on options. So, without something to account for what those differences actually are I am basically lost, and all my manuals and schematics are for 2016 so they very well may have changed completely with the introduction of TSS and all that. So alas, I gotta say I am at a loss for what to do. Are there updated wiring schematics floating around out there somewhere? Possibly, but I haven't looked because I have the 2016 layout for my 2016.

That would be your first step in unraveling this mystery- get the schematics and then you can start to piece together what is what, and formulate a strategy to get your climate readout working.
