I was in the same boat, in the main thread they go over this a few times and from what everyone and Matt himself says the tune is not detectable by toyota. I guess you can reflash each time you go to the dealership just good measure but it isn't necessary.

Placed my order earlier this week, got it in Thursday. Now just waiting to get my registration key back. Hopefully tomorrow so I don't have to wait all weekend.

Flash was extremely easy. Stupid easy. Did it yesterday afternoon. I've only put 100 miles on the truck so far but can tell a difference. I know it probably has to relearn, but I can tell a difference between this and previous relearning. I averaged 22mpg before and was half a tank in and after 100 miles it's sitting at 23.2. still too early for definitive review, but I anticipate being extremely happy with it.
Will report back in a cpl weeks once I get another 700-800 miles on it.
    Curious about the performance tune!

After a week with this, most of which was spent towing a camper, I absolutely LOVE the tune. I'm only using 87 base so far, and it's ridiculous how much driveability has improved. It actually feels like it has some power.

So does the ovtune address the "4th gear death grip" and the "race to 6th" once it finally shifts out of 4th?

For me, yes and it works great. It no longer dropped from 6 to 4 on a very slight hill and Rams it's way back up to 6 afterwards. It drops to 5 and powers on up the hill.

After several hundred miles this is the way the truck shoulda been from the factory.

I'll keep this short and sweet: No 3rd gen Taco should be driving around without OVTune. It is pricey, but you will never once regret the cash after you apply the tune. I have been using the 87 octane tune and I immediately started getting +1-2 MPG as well as faster acceleration and smoother shifting.

It isn't perfect, and the transmission is still a problem child. Shifting is smoother, but 3rd and 4th are still harsher than I would like. I also wish it would be more willing to drop from 5th/6th to 4th when going 50+ MPH up a hill. I try to find the sweet spot, but most of the time I wind up going down to 3rd and hit lightspeed. Luckily I can switch it to sport shift, which defaults to 4th, until I get to the top of the hill and reengage drive.

I did the ovtune in hopes of finding a bit more power(I have always had v8s) and help the shifting issues. I cant really feel the power increase but the gas pedal is way more responsive and drivability has been greatly improved. After the tune I added the shift sense pro and now the driving experience is probably about as good as its gonna get. I'm super happy with the pair. As a bonus the braking is night and day difference. Before it seemed difficult to find consistent braking and every brake felt like a hard stop. Now its smooth and consistent braking every time. I would definitely recommend.

After reading about shift sense and being 1/3 the price Why buy OV tune, it seems it does everything OV tune would do and all the review's are good ??????...

question: I have the TSB for the garbage shifting and seems to have fixed all my gropes with city driving, but it seems like cruise control is still daft. Does OVTune tend to solve the terrible logic while cruise control is enabled? Specifically the frequent downshifts at highway speeds.

SSP does not do what OVTune does. SSP controls upshifting while using S-mode. OVTune modifies the ECU mapping to make the truck run better. Might want to do some more research.

Unfortunately no it does not fix cruise control.

100% happy with OV Tune. I’m currently running the 93 base tune and couldn’t be happier with the way it drives. Shifting, power, and MPGs are all improved. There are a lot of hills in west Austin and now it’s not a goofy down up down up shift experience on every little incline. On a lot of hills it will hold gear and power through. I recommend OV Tune for anyone who’s not happy with the stock driving experience.
