That's rough, does your schedule constantly change?

 

It's fairly consistent. I work 4am-12 every Saturday, and 7am-4 during the week. Trying to get to sleep Friday night for that 4am shift can be tough.

After 12 the day got much much better

 

OK. Emergency here. Suddenly my CEL and TRAC OFF lights came on and truck won't accelerate worth shit.

I'm on the road right now and don't have my ODB II reader handy.

Any thoughts for a quick fix?

 

Secondary air injection valve. That was my problem. I had the same problem. Wouldn’t accelerate for nothing. But I could get up to speed if I feathered the gas peddle real slow. There is a recall on it from Toyota.

 

So I can't fix this myself?

 

Find an auto parts store. Any of the chains should read the CEL code for free, but I know Autozone will for sure. Without the CEL code, we're just grasping at straws in the dark. Do you not have you Ultragauge with you? That will read codes.

Did your SAI failure trigger a TRAC OFF light? SAI system has nothing to do with traction control or ABS, so I don't know why it would trigger that light. When the SAI in mine failed, I just got a CEL.

SAI is emissions BS. The pump is on the passenger side fender near the firewall. I'm not sure where the valve is on the 1GR, but should be on/near the exhaust manifold.

The SAI system can be fixed my the end user. The parts are just expensive. It was $1500-2000 when I had mine fixed at the dealership around 2014 or 2015.

 

I'm back home now, I scanned it and it is throwing P2445 codes.

Yes, I got the TRAC OFF light.

Mine is a 2-gen, and I know where the pump is.

When I said "Can I fix it myself?" I was thinking more along the lines of "Can I tear the pump assembly apart, clean things up, etc. then put it back together?" Yes, if I had the parts I know I could fix it.

What about these "Bypass kits" I've heard about?

I've seen threads where people tear the valve apart and clean it up to get it working again. I think if the pump is bad then it just has to be replaced.

When mine went the recall hadn’t come out yet and I had ordered the part from McGeorge Toyota. 3 days later I got the letter in the mail. SMH. I was pissed. Cost was like $442.

 

Usually with recalls, you can apply for a refund from Toyota for costs to repair the problem before the recall was released. Probably too late for that now, though.

 

Oh I got reimbursed. Little extra to. Lol. Couldn’t believe the price difference between dealerships. The one here in F’burg was around $750. And McGeorge was $442.

 

I'm also seeing that Toyota extended the warranty for this problem, but apparently only for the 2012 model (mine is a 2015).

 

Well, that's good to hear.

 

I knew I still had it somewhere. When I took mine in my extended warranty was still good. But they said it wasn’t covered under warranty. I asked what part of bumper to bumper coverage was I not understanding. They said it’s part of the emissions system but it’s not. I said well give me my truck back and you can go pound sand and will never do business again with you guys.

 

OK.

An online suggestion I found said to disconnect the battery for about an hour and allow the ECU to completely discharge, which I did.

I then hooked it back up and she started OK with no CEL or TRAC OFF. I took it for a short spin and it ran fine and accelerated like it should.

Let's hope it was just a fluke.

 

It will likely come back. The SAI system only runs at startup. When mine went out, I would clear the codes when my ultragauge, but the codes would come back after a day or two.

 

Well, if that happens, it happens. BTW, a Toyota tech on one of my Facebook forums looked up my VIN and said mine is NOT on the extended warranty list.

Hey guys new guy here. I’m not new to Tacoma’s I’ve had them for years. I’m in central VA and have two 2nd Gen DCSB both in silver one is a 2012 and the other a 2013. One is a stock Daily Driver and the other is ready for pretty much anything.
