I see a lot of 2nd gen tacomas with ladder racks on the road but i hardly see any on TW, Recently i put a Tracrac G2 on my truck , it can handle 800 LBS and is made for our tacoma. Great for long material. What do you all think about ladder racks??

I grew up with ladder racks on my old man's trucks... if you need 'em, use 'em. You can do a lot more with the TracRac than ladders, though. I saw a guy last month that had his bicycles hanging underneath via "S" hooks, coolers in the bed and a kayak up on top. Looked like he had a fun trip coming up :D

I got one, use it more often then I thought I would. I put my long surf board on it, kayaks, wood (2x4 etc.)

I've only seen them on work tacomas for small businesses. If you need it... great. If not.... why? It definitely doesn't improve the look of the truck if that's what you're after. It will hold ladders rather well though.

Ladder / lumber racks are for work , so , as Kyouto said above , if you need 'em yes . If not , no .

I don't have them on my truck. I do have the factory roof rack. But that being said I think they would be great and very useful. I do have a tonneau cover and use it a lot so ladder racks won't work for me

What do I think about ladder racks? ........I think these racks will carry ladders, poles, wood, pipes, surfboards, kayaks or 450 lbs of whatever.

I don't think I'd ride around with them on all the time without needing them more often since it takes about 10 minutes to put them on.

This is no doubt the way to roll.

Unless, of course, your truck is a full on-full time work truck...which in most cases probably would require a full size Ford or Chevy.

If you need them install them. If you don't need them then don't. I don't know why you would run them if you didn't use them.

My father-in-law likes to make a short ladder rack that comes to just below the top of the roof at the front of the bed, and he makes an extension to drop into the holes in that rack when he needs to carry something. He makes rack ends that go into front and rear 2" receiver hitches so that he can carry flat things the full length of the truck.

I had the Trac rac G2 when I carried a 28' ladder around. I was a contractor for Charter. Worked great for that. Not doing it anymore so I sold it to someone on here:cool:

I'm not a big fan of ladder racks, but I do like a nice headache rack. Here's mine made out of diamond plate aluminum

^^^ This is similar to the rack I am going to get built ^^^ I like that it is on a DCLB , gives me an idea what the final look will be .

    Thanks PDiddy .

This looks great! I've never been a fan of campers on trucks, but I like it on the Tacoma (I've seen a few others too). The rack makes it even better. Nice Truck!

Saw your pics; if you need a rack, the one you have is really nice, but I have no need and don't really care for em.

You probably hardly see any trucks here on TW with ladder racks because most folks don't get them for looks. They're mainly put on to serve a purpose. I voted not on my truck because I don't have a need to regularly carry big cargo, but if you need it I say go for it.
