When I ordered my Macan straight from Germany.... 5 month wait, the dealer had very specific instructions that there was to be no detailing or ‘cleaning’ of any sort. They knew that was my standing instruction for any service time too.

Drying is often the culprit for swirls because those are the cheaper towels. My local Toyota dealership has cheaped out and is now giving out coupons for the local drive through instead of a complimentary washing. I figure some bean counter has figured out that it’s cheaper to buy a ticket wash than to pay someone. Particularly given the ‘failure to execute’ by many. Many will just pass on the trouble of finding the wash and going there ‘now’. Saves me some stress over worrying about them washing mine.

For the past 8+ years, nobody but me has touched our cars with a wash mitt. If you care about your paint or are OCD, it matters. I probably bought $1k worth of gear and supplies when I got serious about it.

Black is the worst color of them all.

My tacoma got swirl marks from a microfiber towel using clay bar lube to clean up after removing the trd stickers on the bed. Just because you cant see them in other colors doesnt mean they arent there. Black just shows it easier. Idk why you dont believe in the ceramic coating "hype" I dont know how you couldnt see the good in a coating that is harder than your clear coat, makes it as easy to wash as a truck with a fresh coat of wax months or even years after applying it. Never having to wax again sounds pretty good in my book. The less i have to touch it, the less chance for more scratches.

I don't have any issues cleaning and maintaining my cars and trucks. My mustang is 13 years old, never been washed in it's entire life since I bought it new. My 4 runner is dead mint, my suburban as well. Ceramic coating might protect, is it as hard as the clear coat, I don't believe so. However I'm not interested in it at all. I have a pretty good system that has worked for me. I have been collecting, buying, selling and restoring cars, trucks and a few boats. I'm very content with other products and would never pay someone a grand to put a sealant on my vehicle, when I have vehicles that still shine like new.IMG_20190407_091807039_HDR.jpg 8853.jpg

Like I said, people not knowing what they are doing or using the wrong equipment or supplies. I wash my vehicles all the time and I never get swirls which are typically from a high speed buffer and not polished out enough, then hand glazing the finish
I think people get swirls confused with the spider webbing look. I could be wrong,I just know what to do and not do. My opinion ceramic coating over rated. I have friends that have had it done, I have seen them and used it before. It's my opinion it's not all that great or any better than products I have used.

to each their own. 1k pays itself off pretty quick if you value your time at all. It works for you, and your vehicles look great so no need to change what you do. But that doesnt mean that it isnt as good, or even superior to your way. Believe it or not, most oem automotive clear coats are a 4-6 hardness on the hardness pencil test. most ceramics are a 9 or 9h....harder is harder.

Cant help but notice you also dont have a black vehicle pictured. Those colors are very forgiving to any kind of marks. Most people around here charge 200 dollars more to paint correct a black vehicle for that exact reason. And im not sure what is wrong about a brand new microfiber cloth with a lubricant on it and it still leaving swirl marks that need to be buffed out.

You'd be surprised. Throw a clay bar on it.

it was clay barred. Then put through a 3 stage buffing and paint correction process. If anything was on top of the clear coat before, it would have been long gone.
EDIT 4 stage process then ceramic was applied

That is the way midnight black is supposed to look.

The color flakes simulate stars at midnight.
