    To sum it up.

If you do not want to replace studs from the 1" kit either go with a 1/2", 1.5" or 2" kit.

If you want enough rake for hauling I’d say 1" minimum rake.

So this will be 1/2" lift up front

    Or

1.5" lift up front with 1" rear lift

Or 2" lift up front with 1.5" in the rear (Rear will need longer struts at this point)

With a 1" spacer up front = 2" lift you will have exactly 1/2' if shock travel left up front. Do not go over 2" or you will find the strut crushing itself on a hard hit because of the bump stop travel.

I just received my 1/2" spacer plates from Headstrong today. I pressed the old studs out but the new stud knurls (I believe they are called) are to small and spin inside the strut mount hole. I sent HS an email and now waiting for a response. I posted a picture of the original and HS side by side. Looking online the Toytech studs appear similar to OE???

After the below quick and seemingly well prepared response from HS, I reinstalled the old studs (with no problem) and I'm putting the one side back together. I just ordered the set from Toytec with hopefully better results.

Now the act of pressing out the old studs could cause the hole to bore out more which can be the difference of the new studs seating properly or not. Also due to the manufacturing tolerances within the various mounts there have been instances in which the stud does not properly seat regardless. More instances occur with aftermarket mounts which is why we recommend these to be used with factory mounts. If they do not seat correctly it could make it difficult to tighten the nuts down without the stud spinning. IF this occurs there really isn’t much of a solution. I have had customers tack weld the studs in place but this is not something that we have done here so I cannot really speak to this at all. To be best of my knowledge there isn’t another wider stud that can be used.

I got the Toytec kit in today. I had also went ahead and ordered a moog mount to make sure the studs would fit this time before pulling the coiled shock out again. The Toytec studs fit perfectly in the mount. I plan on installing them this weekend.

The top pic is after the 1/2" plate installation and the bottom is a stock image. My measurements showed the front slightly higher then the rear now, about 1/8" - 1/4" higher on level ground. I just ordered a 1/4" (yes 0.25") leaf spring block kit from ebay. These are normally geared toward leveling muscle cars out, but most blocks are universal and these should work...I think. After the blocks are installed, I'm going to get one size larger BFGs.

Here are some pics of the coiled shock/strut. I marked the top and bottom with a silver sharpie to make sure it went back together the same way it came apart. If it's put back together slightly askew the top and bottom won't line up and the coil may have to be compressed again in order to turn it. I rented the MacPherson strut coil compressor tool from O'Reily Auto Parts. I found that having seven coils between each side of the tool was the best way to compressor the coil evenly.

Yeah, and if you look again the slide safety pins couldn't come completely out due to the thickness of the coils. I need to find a spring compression tool better fitted for a Tacoma. I'm sure I'll be putting new struts on it in about 30K-50K and will have to do this all over again.

Looks like the 1/4" spacer isn't going to work. I ordered the Toytec 1/2" above. I'll try to install this weekend if they come in and post pics.
FYI, Discount tire has a 10% Memorial day sale on tires. I may order the BFGs from them this weekend if I don't find a better price.

3.jpgI added the rear Toytec 1/2" shims with 7.5" u-bolts. Previously, I had added a front Toytec 1/2" spacer kit which made it slightly higher in the front. It's currently about 3/4" higher in the rear, but I think this is about as level as it's going to get. I currently have stock 265/60R18 Michelin tires and those are about to be changed out to BFG 265/65R18s.

This looks just about right. Just a 3/4 inch rake.
I plan on using a 1/4 inch strut spacer for about a 1/2 inch rake.

    any new photos.
