OME is not Toyota and as far as I know they make bumpers but not grilles, did you mean OEM? And if yes then you are still wrong. You can add a OEM Pro grille to an off road, sport or SR5 but it’s not designed specifically for any of them, only the pro. They sit at different ride heights and have different sensor locations, all of this is calibrated and when you change things why should Toyota cover it? And it’s not them being “anal”, it’s them covering themselves when you change the grille and wreck the truck and try to sue cause the auto braking didn’t activate. Also these new safety features are federally mandated now, all new vehicles have to have certain nanny sensors now, no going back now.

I did mean OEM. Maybe I didn’t read into the thread good enough but weren’t people saying they were completely disabling TSS because of the mod?

Wellllll.....here’s the thing. In theory you have the freedom to not sign the contract. But that means if you drive without a license you incur violations that could eventually lead to imprisonment if you don’t cooperate (pay fines, etc). Anyway...

These new safety systems are not the result of communism or socialism though. Let’s not throw around words when we don’t really understand the definition. They are the result of government safety regulatory oversight intended to reduce the number of collisions. When there are more traffic accidents we all pay through increased insurance and in many other ways. So in theory it’s a good thing. The trade off is that vehicles in this new tech-heavy age are more difficult to mod and repair. Modifying your truck may cause the safety system not to operate to spec, why should Toyota expose itself to that risk? It doesn’t make them a bad company. I’m not sure if these safety systems are required for new vehicles yet but if they aren’t no doubt they will be. Some of you want to blame Toyota for making sure they comply with US vehicle regulations? And cover their butts legally? I’m sure Toyota can be criticized for many other things but I find it difficult to mad at them (or the dealership) for this one.

Also remember that, as many state here in many threads, the dealership is not Toyota. They have a complex contractual agreement with Toyota but are separate entities.

They issued a letter that is voluntary to sign if you have modified the truck. It basically says they will not be held responsible if you get in an accident and the TSS does not function properly because of the modifications. Normally I’d be on your side when the manufacturer refuses to fix something because of a mod that has nothing to do with it, but lifts or different grills (even larger tires) directly result in the sensor not being calibrated correctly. If they won’t fix your AC cause you added a lift well then I’m all for saying fuck Toyota on that one.

okay. I can understand that. I just kinda skimmed over and took away from it that they would be completely disengaging the system and denying warranty work. Its not a big deal to me TSS isn't I don't typically use it I am aware of the road when I drive so I trust myself more than id ever trust a sensor on my vehicle. I just got myself worked up for no reason I guess. didn't exactly mean to come off as a hot head. just didn't want to go into the dealer and have to listen to a bunch of bullshit and be told they were denying my lifetime warranty and such because of a grille.

No, you defend your right to travel the common rights of way. Or with the IRS you claim your right not to be forced to produce records. A conditional acceptance works well.

No one knows their rights, they just know their masters orders.

No worries I didn't take it that way. Hopefully I didn’t come off like a dick haha. And your warranty can only be voided if you have a salvage title, use it for racing or abuse beyond normal usage. So if you modify the grille all they can do it deny claims related to it. And when the magnusson moss act people come storming in, not that doesn’t work in the real world. Gotta pay to play.

Nah man you didn't come off like a dick. I was just being a testy bitch about it. Should have just read through the thread before I started saying stuff. Love my Tacoma and have no plans of getting rid of it. I just got my panties in a bunch over nothing I guess. Thanks for telling me what its all really about.

IDK, here's the thing I DID not modify my truck. The dealer did when new. I shouldn't have to sign a waiver because their contracted authorized sales entity (the dealer) modified their (Toyota) product by lifting it and adding huge tires when still new. Titled as new. I have an appt. tomorrow for just a tire rotation (free). I am going to bring it up and see. The thing is at my very first visit I reported and it is in the system that the TSS system on my truck was throwing the BRAKE warning on the dash for no reason.

When I took my wife’s 4Runner in for service on Friday I watched an irate owner go bugshit on a service rep for this.

He apparently bought a Tacoma sr5 with a dealer installed lift and tire package. The rep was telling him that his tss would be turned off as part of the recall due to the mods. He was refusing to sign the disclaimer and going pure-d insane. Was shouting at the rep, asking him if they were going to put disclaimers on all the dealer modded trucks still for sale on the lot.

They brought a manager out to
mollify him but it wasn’t working. There were trying like hell to get him into an office because he was causing a scene.

Don’t know how it played out......but it was fun to watch.

No one says you cannot modify your vehicle. Just that it comes with limitations.

If you don't want the service done, state that on any repair order.

Not sure what having a right of way to access a public area via a road has to do with operating a motor vehicle. If your driver’s license is revoked you can continue to travel on any public road you please all day and night long...on foot, bicycle, scooter, anything that doesn’t require a DL. Words mean things.

The IRS stuff, I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you want to have that road to travel on, taxes have to be collected to pay for it.

Master’s orders? Let’s bring this back on topic. Some dealerships are not agreeing to make certain changes to the safety system if you’ve modified your truck in such a way that the safety system can’t operate to spec. I really can’t find fault in that, nor does it logically connect to a master/slave construct. Everyone has choices. You can mod your truck and just don’t get a working safety system. The dealership can decide which trucks it’ll do the upgrade work on. If all else fails you can seek assistance through the court system. Doesn’t seem very despotic to me.

If you’re a proponent of a government so limited that it can’t enforce tax law or regulate motor vehicle operation, that’s fine, you have every right to your opinion. But then you ought to live somewhere where there are no public roads, utilities, bridges, or government provided infrastructure or services of any kind, so you can freely live your lifestyle without restriction. Say, northern Alaska. Otherwise you’re just bitching about the government while simultaneously taking advantage of all its benefits, which isn’t very fair. And maybe you’re just trolling, in which case I still enjoyed the thought exercise.

IRS doesn't pay for roads... Smh. Lol

    Pay your masters

I didn't read past that point you made. It is pretty funny you were complaining about governnment "taking" rights, now your defending them infringing them. Lol

The sensor isn't calibrated corre tly until they calibrate it. Toyota refusing to calibrate it without signing a waiver is what's dangerous and wrong.
Other dealers can calibrate them with 3" lifts and tires and different grills. Why can't they perform a calibration with just a grill, or just new tires then?
There's no reason I've heard besides trying to get free liability waivers signed from people who don't know any better.
