I would say it would depend on your terrain and if you have a lift and bigger tires. I'm stock and live in flat area, it has helped my truck tremendously with cruise at 75 mph and below. Better in wind too. Still not perfect but waaaay better. I have no mountains so if you have a lot of elevation and/or you are lifted, I'm not your best review resource.

Welp that solves that for me. It’s the only thing performance-wise that I don’t like about the truck.

If you run one of the gear lock tunes without using cruise control, it works great and doesn't constantly downshift for no reason. You can literally mash the throttle in any gear and it won't downshift until you tell it to by moving the shift lever. Cruise control may be fixed in the future with an update, but as of now, OVTune said gear locking does not work while using cruise control due to how it is all programmed. The truck does run a lot better with the tune, but the shift dance when using cruise control, especially above 70mph, is still real.

That seems like a pretty neat feature, almost like a manual emulator. I think the only gripe with my transmission post-TSB is how it performs under cruise control, and even though I’m sure OVTune is solid, it serves me no purpose unless it can address cruise control...hoping there’s a development in the future!

For 2016-17 trucks cruise control should definitely operate better than stock. Adaptive cruise models will still act like stock.
Trucks with heavy mods may not see as big of a benefit to cruise control yet

I really like my new 2019 TRD 4x4 OR, I have had it for about 3 months with about 6500 miles on it, I have done many upgrades from 5100 Belsteins to KMC 775 rims w/Toyo 285/70/17 R/T's, and much more. I still have my 2001 F-350 7.3 4x4 and I finally purchased a tuner for it, and it woke up that truck and it probably gets better MPG than the Tacoma. I'm on the fence about the OV, 17 HP costs $699 seems excessive for a one tune option. My Edge Evolution tuner has many options and I have learned what works for me with it. I would think my 2019 Tacoma would have all the latest firmware to the ECU and Trans module but I haven't had time to take it into the dealer to find out. I waited until after my warranty was up on the F350 to get a tuner, I wonder if the OV tuner will void my warranty(?), and if there will be selective tuner options (besides the fuel grade options) with the OV?

Classic Racer I agree. I have 2017 4dr sport 4x4 no OVT. Shifts find no issues. And for the small amount of hp and Torque increase plus to see the difference you need a 93 or 91 oct tune to me it is to costly. I have seen where some say the 87 tune you cannot tell much difference me.

I just loaded it and tuned my truck to the 93 base tune. I've been running 93 octane for a while now because I noticed it was giving me better mileage than 87 on the 87 tune. Figured I would just run the 93 tune and see how it goes. Well.. not so good. I tuned it 93 base, cleared both learning values and let it idle for 10 miles. After idling I took it for a road test and it felt a little funny at first but figured it would smooth out (ran rough and shifted harsh). After about a mile the truck bucked a few times violently and then shifted into neutral and the CEL and brake override light came on. I was stuck in the middle of the road with the truck idling at 1500rpms by itself and wouldn't go anywhere. Thank god I brought my laptop because I had to tune back to stock to get it to move out of the 2 lane road I was stuck on. What caused this to happen? Now I am nervous to run the tune again..

The logger doesn't work as soon as I click connect it just crashes out.

Hope we can get this resolved it was not a fun experience.

Please see our email response, we are inquiring for more detail to see why this may have happened.
We have seen this happen on a few trucks (2019) with radar cruise sensor recall and one with a faulty throttle.

Also, as we have posted before, we are working on an all new logger for everyone

I am not knocking those who get the OVT. It is your truck. I would if I had an extra $699. I love my Tacoma 4th one I have owned and last truck/vehicle. Had to retire early due to some issues from 25 yrs of active army. Maybe in a few years when I turn 62 I can treat my taco to the OVT.

Good read. Answered a lot of my questions.

Not sure if I came across this question......but how is it with warranty issues? My dealings with Toyota have been, well, terrible. I can definitely see Toyota saying “nope. You have a tune. Not fixing anything”

Yes Mr. OVTune does this void My warranty? And also I don’t really see any thing on your website besides an octane tunes.

$699 is a high price for 17 HP
    Is there no other competition?

Our tune does not directly void any warranties.

You get all options we offer base mpg / performance / gearlock / FOB MT and octane versions of each + free updates.

I don't think competition will offer what we do, due to the amount of custom code we have hand written into these.

Is there a trial period (30-60 Days) and a Full Money Back Guarantee if not satisfied?

Then don't buy it. No one is holding a gun to your head. And as Mathew graciously replied, there are multiple options for each octane tune. Plus any upcoming updates and added features are included. Why complain, especially coming from someone who hasn't even tried the tune.[/QUOTE]
