Hey guys, have this nagging noise that is bothering the hell out of me. It only seems to make the noise right at 25. Little faster and it goes away, little slower, the same. I replaced the u joints and CCB beginning of this week to see if it would make a difference, no dice. Checked everything under the truck for possible noise, heat shields, exhaust flanges, anything I could think of that would possibly touch. Pushed pulled and pryd and cannot recreate it.

It's a hard one to describe, kind of a rolling ching ching ching. Lower frequency metallic noise. Side note is it seems to only be when I have my summer tires on (stock sport wheels). When the winters are on it doesn't seem to exist, at least not that I can recall hearing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Where does it sound like it's coming from?

I have a noise.at as round 1500rpm and low speed. Only under engine load. No noise.on bumps, idle, or coasting. Sounds like front passenger side to me. Maybe firewall like an A/C line vibrating.

    Is yours similar?

Unfortunately no, mine happens any time, coasting, accelerating, decelerating. Pretty much always there right at that speed.

I will definitely try this in the morning, at work all night and won't be able to hear it driving in our gravel yard. Will definitely give it a try though, thanks.

Does it sound like its at drive line speeds? Which u joints did you replace?

It might be worth getting the truck on stands and spinning your tires/driveshafts to see what you hear, especially with your sport rims on, maybe something is rubbing

Will try this as well. I replaced the 3 joints in the rear shaft. Noticed a loose slip joint near the muffler this morning too, I'm going to investigate this as well today while it's in the air.

Don't forget to check the front shaft, it spins when you are driving even though 4WD isn't engaged

Bumping this up. Finally had time to check more. I put my steelies with winter tires back on yesterday, noise is gone with them on. My assumption is the Duratracs have a weird frequency shake at 25 that I can't feel in the truck. But it's enough to shake something underneath. Only thing I can think of. Anyone else have a theory?

I could be wrong on this one, do tacomas disconnect the front differential from the driveshaft when in 2wd?

Its called a ADD or automatic disconecting differential...that may refer to how it engages with the hubs though. I know that when trouble shooting my 4wd and I got it back into 2wd on four jackstands the dront drive shaft was not spining.
