Custom steering wheel logo

On the 3rd gen emblem is a soft flexible plastic. I used a long nose plier and carefully pull the emblem just enough to use a nipper nail cutter, some of the outer pegs are pulled out easily but the 3 middle ones are little bit thicker..






e6000 glue did the job.. Very solid adhesion and didn't even use the pegs for alignment and pretty center though..

 

Yep...It was actually really easy. Have a small pair of wire snips and a plastic wedge to pry up.

 

oo yeah i’m trying to just paint the current one that’s on there so i don’t really want to destroy it unless anyone has one that will fit my 2nd gen they want to ship me haah

 

Second gen if you want to remove it without damage you’re gonna have to drill the airbag rivets. See my post a few pages back. These emblems beat the hell out of painting the stocker.

 

really? i cant pull it back and cut it like the 3rd gen?

should i just rip it off and buy another one? there are ones on ebay but they are $25.

next question. what’s the best way to get the chrome off so i can paint it? or should i just scuff it up real good and prime and paint?

i did my emblem on my grill and left it on and just scuffed it up real good i primed painted and cleared and it held up pretty good only chipped inna few spots.

 

I doubt you'll be getting the chrome off. Scuff, primer, and paint will be the best.

 

been doing research some say oven cleaner some say bleach. but be much easier to scuff and paint.

Interesting, I didn't know it was even possible.

Epoxy should work, it doesn't always bond to all plastic types though. So I'd test it's adhesion if your worried about it flying off in an airbag deployment. Super glue bonds extremely well also. I think the best would be e6000, since it remains flexible and bonds really well.

 

oo haha i’m not worried about it flying off haha. i just want something that will hold it to the airbag and not come undone

 

Nice I’ll do this. Really don’t want to take anything off from the dash or steering wheel, it never goes back 100% the same way

 

@JimmyRigged88 The Pro Grille style one I grabbed from you awhile back I have yet to install. I was just looking at it today and noticed there are 6 holes total; 3 on left and 3 on right, but the filament you provided only fits in 2 of the 6 holes :-( Is it safe to try and drill the holes larger? Or would applying bonding to the backside outer-rim be sufficient enough?

 

The pegs are not necessary, I like them because it helps hold everything nice and centered while the glue cures. And you can melt them on the backside to have a less permanent way of holding it on there. You can drill it out, just be careful not to go all the way through. Usually it's just some flashing around the hole and can be shaved off with a knife or exacto.

 

I had a similar experience when I installed mine. I can’t explain it or even understand it, but when I cut the filament to size (creating pegs) they all fit perfectly into the six holes. Give it a shot.

i removed mine yesterday using a pick tool and a razor blade. was careful and the emblem wasn’t damaged

 

emblem on 5th gen 4 runner is same exact as tacoma correct? like how it’s held on.
going to be removing my friends and painting it as well

 

I've heard they are identical.
