While I love camping with my wife and son, or friends, there's something to be said about camping alone - or just with my dog.
You can do as you'd like. Not be held to a schedule. Eat and drink whatever you feel like.
I've also met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of good conversations with people with whom I probably wouldn't have spoken, had I been with others.

All of those things are awesome alone. Clothes shopping should only ever be done alone. Road tripping alone is fun, sometimes necessary, but what you gain being alone you lose in some of the best memories made with other people. I’ll take both.

i agree man, i've crossed the country alone several times and with an ex wife once and with a good friend once, all great times but to me the best was pulling into a rest stop for a couple hours and keep moving at night to get to the next spot or the end... but yes what you miss out is great times but silence is golden sometimes...i'll take both also when i can get it

I appreciate the inspiration and assurance about solo camping! I’m going on two solo camping trips this summer, one in two weeks out near Yosemite and another up in the northern Cali boonies. I was apprehensive about it, but the idea sounds very peaceful. I’m looking forward to it.

@TacoYea_88 , i see the army logo on yours also, just keep in mind, no wake up, no guard, and no weapon serial numbers to keep track of...its great man, move with a quickness and explore or move like a snail and get around to whatever you feel like...at first it'll be boring but when you learn to enjoy the sounds and feeling of being quiet and alone you might enjoy it..good luck take pictures and post them bitches up man

Solo wilderness camping, hiking, road trips is a good thing to do. What I find is when you spend some time alone in solitude, you are more open, and maybe more yourself when you meet people along the way. I always feel I am at my best in these scenarios.

When I was 2 year’s old, back in ‘74, my parents got this John Denver album for me to play on my all-in-one kids record player. I apparently was obsessed with mountains at the time. I didn’t care much for the balance of the album, but “Rocky Mountain High” and it’s message, has stuck with me all of these years, so I thank John Denver for that and forgive him some cringeworthy moments. I think I’ve been searching for the feeling expressed by the song ever since. I maybe found it many times since, just not in Colorado (yet....will make it there someday).

Now that I am old enough to look back on my life, I think this song had a profound affect on my young brain. Spent the balance of my life seeking out “god’s country” when not tied down by work, other hobbies, and raising my own kid the best I can.

I used to work one day a month a couple of hours away and would overnight at a campground near Kearney, NE—Ft. Kearny, an oasis of quiet out in the middle of farmland. A good cigar and bourbon, a good steak, a good book...some really lovely times. Also a couple of fish ponds good for wasting time on.

Speaking of fishing, fly fishing is definitely best done alone.
