It really more depends on the calipers. I'm running the Hayes Dominions, which are the best brakes I've ever run. The upgraded rotors helped, and the sintered pads are much better at managing heat.

That sounds like shit. Fuuuhhh puke hill. And slammin beers before and after is madness. Hardcore!

Can't like that comment enough. Get a bike, ride it, spend time loving it, not worrying about it.

Please tell me you sent that gap!

Went for a ride up in a very little known area with some stellar riding. 15 miles, 3500K ft of climbing at 9K elevation. It's finally starting to melt off, and now it's going to snow again for the next 4 days.

Demo'd this beast today. Climbs *almost* as well as my 125mm travel Niner, but so much smoother and forgiving on the downs.

Thought I would gain some upright position getting this comfort bike. Same as my old mtb. Don't care for KHS now, was only brand local dealer had. Out last week with Repo pup before the rain, leaving from my yard, peddling and walking. This climb somehow got steeper than it was 15 years ago.

I was thinking about going with 285/75/17 on the 3rd gen, which is basically a 34, but I would need to re gear. The other side of that coin, is just go 33s (285/70/17) dont re gear, and save the money and upgrade my bike more. Which is probably what I am going to end up doing. I am coming to terms that my tacoma isnt going to be able to make it up my old trails I am used to... but Down the road, I am looking at getting either a 1985 xtracab mini truck or a Sased beater truck for trail riding. Maybe an old cruiser if I can find a good deal. My Tacoma is my daily driver, so I might just leave it comfy and smaller to take on baby trails and send it on the mtb instead. Much more cost effective haha. Id rather have a Fox Factory 36 and Factory DPX2 than Kings front and rear hahahaha

Sweet!! Never seen a bike like this, would be cool to mash it down some curvy downhill roads, cafe racer style!

What a sick bike. I am a very monochromatic plain type of color kinda guy, but that color is awesome!!!

Thought I would share a little project I have been working on. I usually travel with a dirt bike on a hitch mount so it was either putting the bike on the roof rack or in the topper. Decided to put it in the topper to help fuel economy and theft protection. Drawer pulls out and front bars/fork swivel on a lazy suzan.

Wait, you can drive on Buzzard Lagoon? I know the gate is busted but I thought it was a ranger trail.

As far as I know Buzzard Lagoon is open to the public. The gate used to be closed seasonally (winter) - I’ve seen it closed - but as you say it’s all bent up and has been open for a few years as far as I can tell. Right at the start, at Eureka Canyon, there’s a sign about the closure (Oct 15 - May 15) implying that it’s open then only to residents this open to all the rest of the year. It’s not a place to go four wheeling, take it easy and respect the land and property owners, but the views to the ocean are fantastic when you break out of the forest.
EDIT: I just found a copy of the SCC county code 9.16.020 which states it’s open only to pedestrian and equestrian traffic Oct - April (the sign definitely said May), as well as vehicle users who have a gate key from the county, but open to motor vehicles the rest of the year. I was there on May 17 so it’s all good. Interestingly, that implies that bikes are not allowed in winter! This version of the code was updated March 2019. BTW we own a house on a private road elsewhere in the SC Mountains so I am NOT encouraging poaching or recreational 4 wheeling on roads maintained by local homeowners.

Is this what you found? https://www.codepublishing.com/CA/SantaCruzCounty/html/SantaCruzCounty09/SantaCruzCounty0916.html

I think you are right in your interpretation. Part of me thinks they'd still ding you since it says "and except for persons with a legal right-of-way". But Buzzard lagoon is the only road listed with a time of year where it becomes "limited access". Agreed that we shouldn't be recreationally wheeling that road. Coming from Santa Clara I try to be extra respectful in the Santa Cruz mountains. I have a right to be there, but the Bay Area is overcrowded with a bunch of people who don't know what they're doing and I don't want to be an ignorant flat lander.

Put a 1up rack on today, and it completely obscures the license plate. I mean, I know all racks do to an extent, but when it's folded up it blatantly and entirely blocks out the plate. I see that 1up makes a license plate holder that attaches to the rack, but it looks like it would then completely block the back up camera. I keep my rack on 24/7/365. Any 1up owners caught flack for have the license plate covered?

I haven’t had any issues (in CA also) but I don’t drive around it with it on that much, except with bikes. Oh, I did get a parking ticket for not having the required residential parking sticker on the back bumper, one time when I did have the rack attached. I had intentionally put the sticker well to the outside end of the bumper so it could be seen easily. Took a photograph of the sticker, showing it wasn’t really blocked, down to the parking office and the ticket was canceled.

Just depends on where you live. If you ever see a patrol car with a rack blocking its plate, take a picture and show the judge if you ever have to fight a ticket. The fact is, it gives a cop a reason to pull you over. That said, I've run a Thule or Kuat rack that blocks my plate 9 months of the year for over 15 years and have never been pulled over for plate obstruction while living all over the country (CA, OR, WA, SD, MO, MD and DC).
