Found reversed steps in the directions and a couple unnecessary pieces in the build that prevented other parts from locking in.:( But I prevailed!

Such a cool thread. My son (9) hasn't been into it for a while, but used to be heavily into it. We built many kits, and a lot of freestyle. wish I had taken pics of some of the stuff we made. This is the only thing that is still intact:

I used to gather the parts for him, and put them into little piles in the order of the directions, and have him do the kits himself. This one I did most of. We must have somewhere between 10-20 hours into. It has working suspension/steering, an electric motor that powers the headlights, opens the gull wing doors, and engine compartment, and the engine has working pistons that go up and down, when the car is rolling.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
If you guys see a Millennium Falcon on sale for $50, its a scam (duh).

The website is typically legit. How it works: you buy it, they don't send it, you get your refund.

    How is that a scam?

Read the fine print. When your purchase the item, you are giving consent for them to collect and sell your personal information to advertisers, etc...

You might think, "there's no one stupid enough to fall for this." Never underestimate the power of stupid.

Could not find a Dewey anywhere but I'll keep looking.
I also somehow grabbed a 2nd Louie and a 2nd Dale if anyone wants to trade for a Dewey! Both are still in sealed bags.

Set 6274 Caribbean Clipper, 1989, from the BIL's old stash.

The hardest part about building something from 30 years ago with 385 reported pieces is...finding all the pieces that are mixed in with about 10 other kits and god knows what else thrown into ziplocs.

I'm actually a lot closer to finishing now. Just missing about 15 pieces (I think) and need to re-string the rigging. My son really wanted to build it, but does not have the patience to help for more than about 10 minutes. He mostly likes the treasure chest, row boat, shark, and "booty"! Ats me boy.

One thing I have discovered is I think there are more ship parts here than go to this model, but not another hull. This clipper has blue and white flags and navy sailors, but there is also a set of Jolly Roger flags and pirate figures, and an extra bottom mast section. So I'll have to investigate that. Lego CSI.

Nice. I've been using https://www.toysperiod.com/ to do research and primarily to download PDFs of all the instructions I don't have to work with! The also provide a complete inventory of all pieces in each set. So, if you find a unique piece, you can also search for all kits that use a specific piece. It is beyond awesome.

So we have Redbeard, and the black jolly roger on white background. And another gray hexagonal crows nest, and two more rope ladders. Doesn't see like a direct match to any of those sets. I think there must be another box of stuff in Chicago and grandma's house....

If not another ship, perhaps it was 6270 Forbidden Island?

You're welcome! I remember that set fondly from when I was a kid. Was big into Pirates; had a few of the ships including Black Seas Barracuda. One of these days I'll get my old collection back out.
