Best Tough and Rugged Skid Plates???

Just looking for some input, I really like rock crawling and pushing my Taco's limits. So who makes the most rough and tough skid plates that will take a real beating and not give???

 

I’d say BAMF’s are probably the gnarliest out there. 1/4” plate with reinforcements. Heavy, but straight beef.

I’d say Mobtown’s are in the running for 2nd in the “withstanding abuse” category.

Lots of other good options out there though.

 

SOS Concepts will make them braced and double 3/16 if you would like. A downside to extra HD steel skids is they start getting extremely heavy.
But I have beat my normal ones up good. Yeah they have some dents and scratches but no where near hitting anything important.

 

I'd really like to get full armor but I can't seem to find anybody who sells really rugged skids as a full set. I really want one with a gas tank skid and BAMF doesn't even make one that I can find.

 

Might have to change my vote. They look like a pound of black angus beef.

 

So get the IFS, transmission (mid), and t-case skid form on company. Then get the gas tank skid from who ever you like.

 

What does everyone think about putting skids on the LCA's and the rear diff?

 

Yeah but that's a lot of crazy weight IMO. To each their own but I like staying as light as possible

@AZ-Tacomadude This^^^^^ the reality for gas tank skids with the plastic tanks is they are more for puncture protection than anything. I've seen stock T4R gas tank skid take a full on drop onto a rock it dented the skid but prevented the gas tank from rupturing which is what you want. Plus adding that large of a skid and heavy on the left side will make for setting up suspension that more difficult.

 

Eh not my cup of tea. There is a point of no return with adding more and more weight to where the truck just becomes a giant beached wale.

Listen closely I slammed my IFS skid down on a big rock to get a judge for how big watch the DS rear tire how high it gets off the ground. I was on that with my diff all it got were some scratches.

Fit like a glove...3/16" $266 IIRC shipped

Anything is better than the OEM tin foil covering the oil pan & plug
