I want to use the 15a fuse on the inside of the truck to tap and run to a switch/relay to power a air compressor. Im doing it this way so it only lets power to to the switch when the truck is on. My question is do I need the type of fuse tap where you install the 15a fuse for the original and then has the second fuse slot on top to protect the wire to the new switch? If so, what size fuse for that second fuse? 5a?

Or , can I use the fuse tap that just has the single slot to put the 15a fuse back in?

The tap wire is just going to the #86 on the relay which is about 12" away.

    Yes
Depends on the compressor. I believe the ARB is a 15 amp but a different compressor may have a different spec.

but the new tapped wire is just for the relay. The air comp.is fused (35a) at the battery.

The fuse is for the relay and the switch which has an led light behind it.

I think terminal #1 is always hot though as opposed to only hot when the truck is on.

Amp draw thru the switch/relay is milliamps... 5a fuse will be ok.

I wish the add a fuse I had plugged into mine knew that! :rofl:I am not certain the slot number to be honest. But I know the empty slot on my 16 is always hot. I just wish I had known that before I ran a wire through my firewall for something that I actually wanted to be hot all the time.

So if you look at my sketch it would be protecting the wire from the fuse tap thru the switch and to #86 on the relay.

Again, I dont know which compressor you are installing but ARB clearly states to put a 15 amp to the switch relay as is shown in the diagram that I linked. Feel free to do it differently if you want though. :oldglory:

You can put whatever size fuse you want as long as the wiring/switch can handle it, that’s what you are protecting.

On my phone so I may not be seeing it, but that diagram does not have a relay. Power is straight off the switch.

I never got any real specifics about his setup. So I guess I assumed it was generic.
