I agree 100% except you don't have to go slow up a dry hot mountain lol.

There's a reason Toyota and the big guys are where they are. They have their finger on the pulse of consumers. There's a reason they offer a Prius... and a Landcruiser. There's also a reason they don't offer a full plug in yet.

Personally I see battery and autonomous vehicles happening together for full acceptance. When that happens the whole industry wi change forever.
However, the guys smarter than me have to do one thing... beat the weather. They still don't have a viable sensor that can see lines that aren't there, see through fog and see through snow and rain. In addition, they are still working on solving a vehicle that slips out of control on ice.
They will do it but it's gonna take awhile.

I really don't see why people are fighting this so much. Almost every other car out here (Bay Area) is a Tesla now. Telsa's are poorly constructed pieces of unreliable garbage. Telsa can't even produce cars that are painted correctly or have even aligned panels. The only other real option are GM's volt or Nissan's EV. Both are also made by Garbage tier manufacturers (GM and Nissan)

It's only a matter of time before Toyota/Honda or Audi/BMW start selling more reliable better constructed EV cars. Imagine the sales when quality manufactures start producing these EV cars.

I am just tired of living in Smog filled cities. When I come down into the South Bay from the Fremont hills, I can see the cloud of Smog that sits on the South Bay. I can also see a similar Cloud of smog that sits over the central valley when I enter the valley from the Altamount Pass mountain. Why we continue to do this to our environment and our own bodies is perplexing. It's especially ironic given that the Altamount pass is home to one of the large wind farms in the world.

Westin hdx drop steps, RCI bed rack w/smittybuilt 2person tent. 3inch RC lift 265/65r18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on mo978’s. 12 inch powered Rockford sub. Rockford door speakers and suburu kicker tweeters (1 blew after hooking door speakers to alpine 45x4 amp).
Rivians electric truck and suv look promising. O to 60 in 3 secs. And ford just dumped a half a billion dollars into it. Electric rocks. My little r/c that goes 70mph and can waterskip is testament to that.

I’d love to see it when we get the point you can waterskip your EV Tacoma. It would reduce the need for snorkels.

    Bingo!

The future is autonomous, and non autonomous vehicles will be prohibitively expensive to operate for "safety reasons".

Autonomous vehicles don't require close proximity parking areas, which is going to free up plenty of valuable real estate- and real estate is where it's at.

Autonomous vehicles are going to severely prohibit our collective freedom of movement, but that is a different subject.

Are we going to debate the rotation of the earth and time zones as well? Like, if this thread goes “Flat Earther”, I guess I wouldn’t be surprised.

You know what I've been wondering... why can't a diesel semi be an electric powered by a diesel generator much like a train engine? Is that possible? Seems like it could be and be much more efficient.

I'm not busting anyones balls here but autonomous vehicles, EVs, etc might be just hunky dory in the major cities but for the rest of us in 'fly over country' I don't see all that working out so well. When everything you do is measured in miles, not blocks, range matters. Autonomous vehicles like orderly well maintained streets and striped lanes, not 1 or 1.5 unmarked and unimproved country lanes. Most of this country's infrastructure does not resemble LA or NYC or Chicago.

I was thinking the same thing. Not in my lifetime. We barely just got a chipotle in this podunk toothless town, and a lot of us have to drive off road. Autonomous isn’t going to be a thing here.

Locomotives mostly convert diesel energy into electric for starting torque and control, and strength and ability of the relative components to withstand the forces required. Hydraulic transmission diesel locomotives were tried in North America, but were a failure due to them not being up to the job. They see limited use in Europe where trains a smaller and lighter.. Trains don’t really do the energy conversion for efficiency. Any time you take one form if energy and make it another you generally loose. However, there are plenty of diesel-electric mining trucks in the world for the same reasons of torque and strength/simplicity. A lot of the giant dump trucks are basically locomotives on tires.
