I wouldn't feel bad about that.
    You can't out-torque electric motors

Mostly exaggerating but yeah, they're quick off the line but that's about all they have going for them. Oh and 5x better gas mileage, but I've got the smiles per miles

Something magical about a Yota 4 banger with a 5 speed...slow as molasses but still so effing enjoyable to drive.

    Yes, magical.
Not a race car, but there is decent performance at higher rpm’s. The 5 speed MT helps find and hold the power.

The Supra is and always will be Japans Mustang (or Camaro). New Supra is utterly pointless in auto-tragic configuration. Who cares if paddle shifts are "faster" around the burger king? And I get it, computer controlled shifts are (this fast) and count for whole seconds in match ups between top tier drivers, who have the skill to push machines to the limits of physics and tires, where the only other place to make time up in a mistake free world is pre-selected gears. But for street driving and 'motoring', why on earth would you ever buy an automatic 'sports/racing' car?

It is only with the manual transmission that one can make a 'connection' with their vehicle. The clutch pedal and the driver selecting gears IS the driving experience. Its how you feel the motor, feel the gears, the vibrations. In Manual transmissions you can change the way the car brakes, turns, coasts, bleeds speed, or you can spin the tires, manipulate the drive train, the turbo (if applicable) all through the clutch. Its such a critical component of 'motor sporting' i cant believe many sanctioning bodies even want paddles to dilute the 'sporting' aspect. The MT IS driving. Everything else is the car driving you, while you make 'inputs' into a computer program.

Porsche figured this out, and 911 GT3-RS now come with a 6-speed option again.

i don't even wanna think about how the AT woulda been trying to wrench my truck in almost a foot of wet sloppy city snow last winter, turning left at a stop sign in 4wd, shifting from 1st to 2nd with left hand trying to keep the fishtailing under control
guess i gotta wait another six months see if I can do that again around here

What's the consensus on best mt fluid for cold weather these days? Or does it matter?

Getting ready to do a change and was going to grab some redline.

RL is great stuff, a lot of owners run it in the MT in all brands of vehicles. Any similar Synthetic will flow at temps well below a regular dino fluid.

Curious if anyone has swapped rear differentials with one of our AT friends on TW? I understand the AT Tacomas have a higher geared rear end (lower ratio). I have a ‘19 off road and my experience is that 1st gear is almost too low and 6th always seems to be running a little high on the rpms when cruising down the freeway at 70-75 MPH. A rear end ratio reduction would seem to be the solution. I never tow anything and rarely go off road. I certainly have no plans to put larger than stock tires on.

Anyone seen this done? I would think some AT guy who recently put larger tires on his rig would jump at the chance, but haven’t seen this particular trade discussed on here. Did a couple searches and didn’t see anything

Thats a mistake. Don’t do it.

You’ll get out of the power band and wish you’d never done it

I guess my thought there was I already feel like 1st is too low and worst case I can always downshift in any other gear

There’s definitely times where i need first low like it is, when i don’t i just use second.

I definitely think it would negatively impact driveability but i’m sure there’s lots of AT guys who would trade you straight up in a hurry if you really wanted to do it.

Sounds just like mine. I think the softer mounts help to absorb shock loads. If your concerned, I would look up and check your torque specs for the mounts and visually inspect that that mounts and frame cross-member are not cracked, abraded, worn out in general.

In our eyes, the most exciting upgrade is the new six-speed manual in the Z4 sDrive20i. The reason? Because the Z4 shares its platform, an engine, and many components with the (currently) automatic-only Toyota GR Supra. If BMW has a stick shift that's ready to go in the Z4, it wouldn't be a stretch to see it migrate to the Supra before too long. If you want that to happen, then the job is on you. Be an activist and call your local Toyota dealership to demand a manual Supra. Just be sure to actually buy it if and when it hits the market.
