thanks guys. I've got a good relationship with him, but I won't like he's a small part of why I began looking for other jobs too. now, my owner (my boss's direct boss), I have a wonderful relationship with and I'm actually going to give him the respect and tell him first. he's done so much for me during my time here I feel like I owe him whatever I can do for him. the guy gave me vacation time just so I could go to Haiti last year.

what sort of bench plan do you follow? I felt weak AF the other day I only got 235 1 time...bench has always been my strong suit I've just been out of the gym too long.

Sounds like a bridge that you don't want to burn. I never burn my bridges either and it has helped me in the past, to get an old job back. You never know. You may end up working for the people you burned the bridge with in the future.

I do an old strength training program I did when I was boxing in the Army. It takes a few gym sessions to see where you are in weight. Flat barbell, 135lbs x 10 reps, 155 x 8 reps and 185 x 6 reps. Then 3 sets of triceps, skull crushers. Then move to incline dumbells. 55lbs x 10, 60lbs x 8 and 65lbs x 6. Then tricep machine. 3 sets of decline barbell. 3 sets of behind the neck tricep presses and then it's just flying everything out. Chest and triceps, back and legs, shoulders and biceps, then cardio and abs. 4 days a week is what I need to get a complete work out in.

sounds solid to me. I follow the Wendler 531 system when I'm trying to get stronger, which as soon as the contractors get out of my dang house I'm going to get back into using my home gym a lot more.

Jeannie and I would like to eventually move to building a home gym. Some dumbells, a nice 3 position bench and maybe one cable machine with push/pull motions. We just need the money and the space to do it! lol It's tough to try and force myself to go work out, especially after a hot day of work. My wife does all the weight lifting with me, so she's getting pretty muscular and of course, she keeps her marathon training pace up throughout the year too. She also helps spot me when I need it.

it's just as hard if not harder to motivate yourself to use your home gym. I've got a good setup now and have been collecting dumbbells to kinda "complete" the gym but the motivation is key. easy to close the door and forget about it.

That's the thing about the gym. Half the battle is getting there! Once you're there, everything just falls into place.

I was worried about turning in my two weeks as well. My boss seemed very understanding of it all and in the end was supportive of my decision. As long as you made the move for the right reasons, no bridges should have to be burned. It’s all business in the end.

true true all things to consider.

I'd be fine paycheck wise because I get vacation time payout, and it'll at most be 1 week of no pay...so that's not a big deal really. The other issue I have is that I have a vacation the 15th-22nd so that may postpone my start date at the new job or who knows lol

thanks man, you're right. I feel like I'm leaving for the right reasons.

    main 3:
to get into a field I have more interest in that will open more doors for me
to get with a company that will fund me going back to get my masters
to reduce the amount of travel I have to do

thankfully I wasn't swapping jobs just for a raise.

Money is not always everything. Benefits, vacation time, relationships with coworkers, company perks are all other things I consider besides pay, when taking a new job. Of course, I've been in the safety industry for the last 15 years of my life, so that's all I know.

I think you’re fine. At the end of the day, it’s your career. Only other person that should matter in your decisions as far as that’s concerned is Amy.
