If it were as simple as "copy and pasting words onto a webpage" then why aren't they just doing that so they can sell the product here?

Also say what you will, but we had the company's lawyer put the entire operation on hold until we got millions of prop 65 warnings printed on fancy little cards that we had to slip into every box of every online order before we could continue selling product here at work. Maybe it wasn't necessary and was just a way to cover bases, I dunno.

We literally only did that for maybe 2 months before the website got shut down anyway lol. Unrelated to that though.

Its not my job to educate them on what the law actually is, and what it means. Some businesses seem to freak out and go postal on "another stupid CA law" when they don't even know what it is.

I mean, I just spent 10 seconds googling and I found a website that spells it out pretty clearly.

Yes, CA has some dumb and restrictive laws, but if you can't manage to copy/paste a warning (they even give you a sample in the above link), then I'm not sure I'd be able to help them anyway.

Those businesses are literally throwing money away because they are just assuming the law is some new big government restriction from those liberal weenies in CA.

I mean, I'm no lawyer, but that government website seems to be pretty clear about it...

I just think it's more complicated than it seems, or we wouldn't be seeing so many restrictions happening because of it. But honestly it has such a small effect on my daily life that it's not worth trying to prove one way or the other. I certainly do agree that CA has some ridiculous laws.

What prompted our company to shut down the e-commerce website after all was a pending lawsuit from a blind guy because we weren't "disabled user friendly". Which actually I believe is a federal law that's been in effect for years. Some organization is going around and putting lawsuits up against every website they can that isn't disabled user friendly. Crazy world we live in

That's a great question, and I have no idea. Wheeler's and countless other websites seem to have made the changes without much effort or complaint.

That's exactly what it was, CYA. The link I posted says the new warnings are NOT required to be in compliance with the law, but it is a good way to save yourself form potential headaches down the road. In other words, there are likely some litigation-happy lawyers that would probably sue as a way to ensure you actually are in compliance, the legal version of "prove it".

It's stupid, I know...
