I have 255/80r17 ST Maxx now and I'm switching to Falkens for all of the same reasons. I'm at 43k on my Maxx, I've just dealt with it. Switching at 50k

Yes, I didn't last 5k tho cause I was lazy and ready for new tires. I had the pull from the day of install. Took it back twice. Had them test drive it.

    255/85r16 Toyo MTs $100 off for a set of 4 at 4wheelparts.com

They're probably the best tire available but the most expensive, and heaviest..

That's the way. I did get stuck a couple of times on that trip since I was on 33s with a longer wheelbase and they were on 35s or more.

I've got them at 32psi for daily driving. My daily commute is short and includes zero highway driving. If I'm going more than an hour or so away at highway speeds, 55psi gets better mileage and wears better.

To and from Moab I was getting consistent 16-17 mpg. For some reason the truck loves high altitude. Above 8000 I got 19.8mpg. I did the math three times to make sure I wasn't mistaken.

    55psi! Wow!

Looking for the best wear, guess I’ll start there.

It's an E1 rated up to 80psi. 55 feels like a fair compromise between comfort and endurance.

It depends on the weight of your vehicle. The tire's maximum load rating is at 80 psi. If your your truck is fully armoured 55psi might be ok, but if you're stock you may end up wearing out the tread on center of the tire. If you are looking to get the most life out of your tread try the chalk method to see what psi gets you the most even tread wear. If you add more weight to the truck bumpers skids etc, do the chalk test again, and adjust your psi. If you want mpg just run them high, but wear the center of the tire out early.

Bumpers, winch, full skids. Chalk tested, regularly aligned, rotated and balanced.

Altitude makes sense. The engine doesn't have to pump as hard to move itself, and there's less air resistance for the truck to deal with. Same reason higher temps give more fuel economy, the engine can be more efficient.

At less than 35psi I could feel the sidewalls rolling in the corners. I'm running 35 around town and 40-45 on highway for trips.

Posted this question in Jibb's other thread. I have a 3rd gen stock offroad. Lots of evidence that 255/85/16 on stock wheels and suspension will fit. Question is, if I introduce wheel spacers, will it rub on the cab mount? I can deal with fender trimming, but I'd really rather not cmc. I figure it should also clear UCAs as well.

Why add spacers if you don't need to?
