Had a buddy attach his hammock to my prinsu roof rack this past week. Anyways, ended up bending of course. Does anyone have any recommendations on repair? I was thinking heating it up with a heat gun/camp stove and bending (hammering?) back into place.

Edit: I don’t think Prinsu racks are not durable, this was pure user error. The hammock was not attached at the main support and thus of course the rack bent. At least it didn’t break! My Prinsu has supported my rooftop tent 10’s of thousands of miles.

Can you just set up the hammock on the other side?

I think if he had tied the off the hammock straight to the support I doubt it would have bent. look like it was attached to a point of the rack that put a lot of leverage on the side supports.

Take the beams off, take all mounting hardware off. Get 2 2x4 pieces of wood and squish the beam between the wood. Once its kinda straight, put some straps around the wood to keep it together, then lower your truck onto the beams to apply more force.

This will get them pretty straight, not perfect though.

BTW, use 2x4s because they are softer than the beams... no chance of damaging them or ruining the paint on them.

I like the ingenuity here. But I agree to give this a shot, press it between two boards, maybe use some clamps, then put some truck weight over it.

    Not enough to list
Its lne of the arms not being supported by anything. What would you expect? A mans weight is pulling it from the side..Of course that would happen.

I like this idea, especially since it looks like its bent in two spots, but I might just use a vice.

EDIT: One of the mounting arms for my ARB bumper got bent during shipping and we just threw it in a vice and bent it back by hand.

I’m liking the vice idea. My only concern is the malleability of aluminum without heating. Will the aluminum break if I throw the side bars into a vice?

Edit: I would use 2x4’s or similar in the vice to help spread the load.
