It's legit, there was a big deal a few years ago about it. Man, you can smell the diesel fumes coming off the ports with the westward wind.

Those cargo ships keep their diesels running 24/7 while in port to provide onboard power.

Never understood a overlanding electric car. I like to know if I get low energy, I can pour fuel into the vehicle vs just being shit out of luck...

This was the one thing I brought up to the guy, I've been sucking fumes coming out of forest roads and limping to the closest gas stations in BFE nowhere. These places tend to not have car chargers

The key thing is.....don’t judge what is happening right at this moment. We are in a period of immense change and the existing barriers to full electrification are being identified and studied by many people. Those barriers will start to fall, as they have already in the grocery-getter and luxury car community, and motor sports. It will take time to get 100-years of gas cars off the road, but once it reaches a critical mass, special interest groups that still want gas cars and trucks will basically be fucked....totally fucked actually. The only reason fuel, engine oil, air filters, spark plugs etc are all as cheap as they are is because they are all made in mass quantities. Be prepared.....once you get even 40% of the population driving EVs.....you basic fuel costs are going to skyrocket, and gas stations will start closing.

Regarding overland travel, a concept is out there of having boost packs that will be the same as carrying Jerry cans. Another 40 miles charge etc. Energy is energy. Whether stored as fuel in a plastic can, or as a charged battery you carry to extend your range.

I own a 2017 Tacoma and a 2015 Camry for my wife. I know for certain the Camry is the last gas sedan I will ever buy, no question. If it lasts another 8-10 years it will be certainly replaced with an EV, if not sooner. I don’t know if I will but another gas Pickup after my Taco is worn out. At that time, I would be looking at where the technology is at. Likely it will be my last gas truck, and be replaced by at very least a hybrid. Ultimately, I want an Toyota EV pickup for the reliability and performance I know they will someday get with an EV platform.

In theory, a properly engineered EV could be submersible like a submarine. The ‘engine’ doesn’t need to breath or stay upright. Drive it upside down on the bottom of the lake. However, it’s unlikely makers would go to the expense and effort to do so. Hydro-locking will be a thing of the past at very least (sorry snorkel bros)

The question is if TW can find a way to fit it in the Tacoma? Then we could sell kits, TRD Tacomaworld edition

Electricity to my house is not exactly reliable, the power company just put up new poles and finally upgraded to 3 phase, no chance in hell that autonomous or electric cars are just around the corner in my area.

To ad to the cargo ship part of the discussion, the ships I have knowledge of don't burn a lot of diesel. They burn what's called bunker oil. I'm not a fan of wikipedia but this is basically accurate-

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_oil

    Higher sulfur pollution than diesel.

HAHA I’d love to see that truck. And the bloodbath that occurred before the final draft of said truck.

You see it from the data side, I see it from the hardware development side. Some of the guys I work with are at the bleeding edge of Occam's Razor on this tech. It simply cannot be "wished" and it will happen. There are real technological barriers, not to mention the infrastructure. I think 25 years conservatively.
But, we need to go towards it. We cannot keep driving what we do 50 years from now. Times are changing for sure.

1500 lbs for a cross country move. Even high Colorado altitudes weren't too bad. Only complaint is my stock leaf springs are bowed the other way a little after unloading it. Lol.
