Seriously thinking about downsizing my vehicle stable. Planning on retirement next year, and would like to simplify. This is what I have -

    Wife's 2012 Honda Civic 70k miles
My 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ Rubicon, 25k miles, mint condition, both tops, auto.
My 2013 Tacoma AC TRD 4x4, 19k miles, AT, also like new

Considering selling the TJ & Tacoma, & getting a late model T4R. Less insurance, best of both worlds IMO, Toyota reliability, more room, plenty of 4x4 ability. Don't use my truck as a truck much, and haven't for a while. After Jeeps for 30+ years, I think I'm done...

If you don't need the truck part of the Tacoma, I feel like the T4R is a solid choice. I've always thought of them as more badass more reliable jeeps anyway lol

Probably looking for any input from those who have had both a 2nd gen Tacoma and a 5th gen T4R.

    I had a 13 Tacoma and currently have a 18 T4R.

I love my 4R. It’s a smooth ride. It’s so much better than a Tacoma in many ways, mostly comfort. It’s also super safe and just great for travel. For us, it’s too big. It’s just two of us and a 17 lbs Boston Terrier.

Our fleet is as follows; 18 4runner, 16 Powerwagon, 13 Golf TDI, 85 4runner, and Ftoy buggy. We currently pay $600ish a month in insurance for all vehicles plus trailer. We also have super high limits because personal preference. We are looking to consolidate shortly. Likely listing my runner for sale in a week or two. His VW will be traded in on whatever I acquire. May also consider selling the 85 and buggy at some point for possibly a Rubicon.

Dude, a 2004 TJ Rubicon with only 25,000 miles is a cherry!

Those things hold their value incredibly well. Particularly a low-miles TJ Rubicon. Woof!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. That's the best jeep ever made. All of those are really nice vehicles.

Have you thought about just delaying your retirement like for another 4 years? Then keep everything you have and you don't have to worry about separation anxiety from having to get rid of your favorite rides.

    Me, I don't plan to retire until I'm 82.

I can’t say enough good about the 4R, and my 2006 Limited 4R saved my wife’s life (65 mph impact). We have owned two now and have never had one issue in a combined 240k miles (which isn’t nothing for even one 4R).

If you need help selling your premium 04 Rubicon, I know at least one sucker just north of you.

I’d have to wait til morning to talk to my other half but he may be interested in the Jeep.

And I’ll have a 4runner up for sale next week.

The 85 is still getting caged. No one wants that, yet.

Good thing my 2018 is mint and up for sale. ;)

Yeah. It’s a sickness, this non-stop vehicle shopping stuff. Ryans first vehicle was a Wrangler so I suspect another joining the fleet within the next 2 vehicle purchases. My ideal situation is three vehicles and one trailer. Sooooo, we need to get rid of two vehicles and one trailer... I’m trying to get everything consolidated. Trying is the key word.

Mods are OME suspension, adj. rear track bar, Currie Antirock, Dirtworx bumpers f/r, aftermarket headlights (not LED), LED tail lights, Body Armor rails, 32" tires, Bartact front seat covers, aftermarket TC shift lever. Both factory tops. Soft top was still in factory sleeve when I purchased 3 years ago from original owner. NM Jeep since new.

I think my only real complaints about fifth gen 4runners is the nose dive(easily fixed with upgraded suspension) and the lack of tech. If you’re paying 40k for a vehicle, you’d think you’d get some fancy things. But nope.

Having driven a Jeep TJ for several decades, the T4R tech, as is, is miles ahead of what I'm used to.

Nice looking TJ. My 03 Rubicon has a scratch or two...maybe a dent.
