Mat, would 1.05.1 87 Base+gearlock tune be better for towing? Currently using perf 87 gearlock which works well, maybe base gearlock would yield better mileage when towing?

 

I got the same response when I updated flash manager. I logged of everything, reopened flash manager and it worked.

 

I just drove from Pharr to Laredo and back. Averaged 14.5MPG going and 13.5MPG coming back. That was a mix of 69mph (yeah if it says 65mph I go 69 not 70), 60mph, and 80mph.

 

From experience, its really a wash for long trips..really depends on wind direction, traffic, etc. I just keep my driving consistent and not worry about it.

 

You can not read the ECU once a tune is flashed. This is part of the intellectual property protections associated with the software.

 

Read and identify are separate functions. You can identify. You cannot read as it is protected with 1.05 and later

 

Thanks for the reply. I do have a 2016 with 04B04 so I select 2017 04B04 when I download tunes. I can download and flash no problem. Think I’ll send in a ticket.

No, you can. I read LDS 77s post and thought he was trying to read the ECU, but apparently he he must have meant read.

Yup, Ive learned to stop worrying about it. I only really used up about a tanks worth so whatever. The other day with a little help from the wind I got 20mpg for like 40-50 miles so meh

That played a small part in updating to it. Figured it wouldn’t hurt anything

 

I would think a lot of peeps updated also because some guys were saying the performance tune tip in seemed milder on 1.05.1. I thought OV said something about it may feel that way due to some changes in the TC, but that no change was made to throttle response.

 

Any recommendations on 87 performance or base tune? Just got it, it’ll be my first time using it!

 

Its really up to you, and what your truck has/weighs.
I started with 87 base and it was a drastic improvement over stock. Then I was curious and went to 87 perf, and over time it became annoying with the sensitive tip-in. Felt like driving a fire engine going forward (which I'm used to), but waaaaayy to scary to reverse with. With my 2 year old nephew moving back (I was scared to reverse into my sisters place and he'd be playing outside - the tip-in in reverse was crazy.. its seriously jumpy and it wasn't worth the risk of him even if he's supervised), I decided to re-tune to 91 base for a softer tip in but a higher octane to see if theres a difference. Drives better than 87 base IMO, the 3.5L motor seems to enjoy a higher octane.

Try one out and if you don't like it you can always reflash to a different tune.

Mind you, my truck is lifted with heavy 33" Goodyear MTR's.

1.05.1 seems to have finallly settled after 700 miles and it's running much better but during the learning phase it was very harsh.

I had a scary ocurrence at about 500 miles where I was carrying 600 pounds of equipment in my truck bed and the vehicle would have a really hard time accelerating. I mean driving around and then WOT to speed up and it would accelerate at a snails pace, very dangerous and scary. Haven't put that weight back but I hope that's gone.

This happens with the truck even while unloaded but not nearly as bad, happens randomly when coming out of turns, going up hills, etc. You floor it, and the vehicle is not going nearly as fast as it can go.

@OVTune once Erom 2.0 releases, this acceleration deadzone that seems to randomly happen should be taken care of correct?

 

1.05 87perf. did that to me a few random times.
