The college maybe, but TDCJ not no, but hell no! I have met folks in the communications department, and well, they wouldn't wish that job on their enemies. Besides, I'd like to move to Dallas to be closer to my "getting elderly" parents. My brother lives close to them as well. A family move sort of thing.

 

A friend mine's wife worked in Texas corrections. She hated and loved it.

 

Yeah, the job is shit, but the time off is awesome! And it's incredibly difficult to get fired!

 

She hated the paperwork and schedule. For your first few years, the schedule will almost break you, then you make rank and have priority for scheduling.

 

That too. I've met soooooo many folks that work for TDCJ in my job in this town it's not even funny! They either love it, because they love the time off with vacation days, and sick days, and insurance, and everything that comes with working for the state, or they hate it because of the culture. Around here it's 90% Nigerian. True statement. Don't know what that means about the culture, but I see it. I've worked with 3 people at AT&T that used to be TDCJ. I've heard horror stories! One of the biggest, country ass, physically capable dudes I've ever know talked shit about getting into altercations...not for me.

Edit: I worked for Harris County for a short while as a jailer and hated it.

 

Yeah, she used to talk about "altercations" every day.

Drinking hard because reasons. I've put nearly 800 miles on my truck since yesterday lol. I'm beat.

Edit: also pounded a monster at 2100 so I wouldn't be drowsy on the drive home

 

Damn. That's a lot of miles. When I drove up to ATX for a wedding about 2 months ago, I left first thing after working all night. I ended up drinking like 44oz of coffee on the drive out and couldn't sleep til like 0300. I had my fare share of booze and even realized I just may not hate wine after all.
