You can change the plugs without removing the intake manifold

The 4.0 is pretty easy to change plugs on.

sorry its hard to keep track of all the different ones, My bad. But I'd still say you need to see what damage happened to your engine .

The last time I changed my plugs the rubber insert in the spark plug socket broke apart and fell in there . I balled up some gorilla tape, stuck it to the end of the socket and pulled it out. I wonder if that's what happened to your truck?

Make sure they note it in your service history, have a paper copy that spells out that i
Did that in your history. They messed up and let them repair it. They're being pretty straight with you, but make sure it's documented. Permanently.

Note they said the engine wasn’t running when something fell in, they didn’t say it wasn’t running AFTER.....I bet they started the engine and heard something rattle around. Bet shit is destroyed now. I’d ask for lifetime warranty on the engine. Stop being a nice guy like some people that posted on this thread. You think being nice and understanding is gonna help you later when your truck is all f’ed up and you’re stuck with a lemon through no fault of your own while the dealer is off scott free?

It’s like some dude banged your girl and “dropped something in her”. You gonna be ok with the consequences 9 month from then?

Lifetime warranty or new truck....don’t be a pushover.

Ummm a genius? Why use a spark socket when you can just let the detonation blow the spark plug out? Chess not checkers.

I would ask to see the piston and cylinder head when they had it pulled apart....I work for as tech at Yamaha and pulled the head off a new jet ski yesterday with 26 hours.... the spark plug had broke and the tip fell into cylinder and destroyed the piston cylinder walls and head....everyone makes mistakes it’s how they own up that matters

It sounds like an accident, it also sounds like you have a honest dealer.

I agree with most of the above. This isn't THAT big of a deal and it's good they're being up front about it. As for the "you should get a brand new truck for putting up with this BS!" people...get real. I wouldn't even go on to say this is a dealership specific issue...stuff happens, period. I also wouldn't worry about what might happen 5k down the road...nor would I worry about having an engine with low mileage opened up. It's a machine, not a human heart. Appreciate the dealerships honesty, make sure it's documented, and let it ride...

Kinda late chiming in but I’d be VERY suspicious of the explanation the dealer gave.

I don’t think they’re being upfront and honest as others have said.

If it was as simple as scoping and removing whatever fell in, they would have done it and let you know after. Search this forum for head gasket replacement- it’s a pretty major job...(Is it a 4.0 or the four banger?

Others have keyed in on “it wasn’t running at the time”. I think this is an unintentional admission they started it and found something wrong.

The dealer not knowing what fell in is suspicious too.

Be respectful about it but call them on it, Columbo like...
