No, but it looks ok to me. Nice that the relay crimps are standard female blade type which can be found. Don't know about the fuse crimps though. It's pretty inexpensive that's for sure.

 

I used one very similar to this and it has worked fine. Its no Bussman but it’s cheap and easy to wire up. No problems in over a year.

 

Looking for panel that fits 3rd gen with manual transmission. Any help?

I'm pretty new to all of this. I'm still in the process of my setup. I was wondering though if I can use a solenoid instead of a bunch of relays. I've seen others do it but I really don't know what the difference or benefits are.

 

Just to clarify, a Solenoid is an electrical coil that acts upon something else when it is energized. A Relay is a solenoid that takes low amperage (signal) electrical current and closes a set of contacts to switch a higher amperage circuit. Some people misuse the term solenoid when they actually mean relay.

 

Thank you, do you happen to know what size fuse i should tap into for a solenoid remote wire, or does it not matter as long and it supplies power when the ignition is on?

 

What solenoid? What does it feed? They have different specs so will need different wiring and fuses. You'll need to fuse both the switch and the solenoid.

 

I would like to use a 100 amp continuous duty solenoid after a 100 amp fuse and before the aux fuse box. I would like the use the solenoid to turn on the aux fuse box when the key is on so the box isn't "hot" when the truck is off.

 

The solenoid has an activation current needed to hold it "on", that's the spec you need to know in order to wire and fuse it properly on the switch side. On the power side awg2 or awg4 in all copper wire (not CCA) to the fuse, the solenoid and on to the fuse panel depending on length of run. So to answer your question I need to know which specific solenoid(link to source or part number) to tell you the correct fuse and wire size on the switch side. If that current is low then any ignition hot fuse would be OK to tap but generally I try to tap from low current fuse locations to minimize the load on any particular fuse location. If you're using a switch, tap the dash fuse panel and if not, tap the engine bay fuse panel to have it energize whenever the engine is on.

Just paying it forward. I looked up that part number and while no spec for the coil current was found, all of the Cole Hersee 12V continuous duty solenoids had a coil resistance of 17.5 ohms which corresponds to less than .7 A. I'd use a 3A fuse and awg18 wire just for ruggedness in the application. Smaller wire and fuse would work but be more likely to break at a connector in the engine bay environment.
