That list can go on forever.

Question is why are you bailing, how long do you need to stay gone, and what type of place are you going to? Those will all be determining factors in proper gear selection.

Or you could just stay there and play dead. :anonymous:

I keep my truck clean, and well maintained. That is about as "survival prepped" as I'm gonna get. I live 15 miles from the nearest city so there is no need for me to pack my truck with junk that could get me targeted for theft. Any and all supplies that I carry could make life easy on the trail, but I don't carry water and perishable food in my vehicle. That stuff is easy enough to come by. I do keep certain things hidden within my rear storage though, but it's mostly for clearing trails and helping folks that have wrecked or are stranded. Ive used everything I keep in my truck several times over the years. Even came up on a farmer with a dying cow that was hit on the road and lent him my pistol for dispatching it. Yep, being ready is a state of mind more than anything. I'm ready for an adventure, but I don't think the sky will fall in my lifetime.

I'm not saying that directed at you though. I don't know the climate in London. Here in Alabama (USA) folks tend to look out for one another especially if things go south like Hurricanes, Tornadoes, bad wrecks, ect.

Here's my list for my truck:

    Flashlight
Stainless cups to sterilize water with
    Rope for making shelter
    10x10 Sil-nylon Tarp for shelter
    Shovel (E-Tool)
    Dustrude 30" Quick Buck Saw
    Fiskars Axe
    Fiskars Hatchet
    Money
    Leatherman Rebar Multi tool
    Swiss army knife
Fallkniven F1 or SET M1 knife
    Backpacking chair
    Umbrella
Spare magazines and a couple of boxes of 9mm
1 change of clothes, 2 pair of socks
    Sunglasses
    Baseball Cap
    Tire repair kit
    Air Compressor
    10,12,14,17,19mm end wrenches
    Phillips/Flathead screw driver
    One pair of pliers

Something to think about is if you sticker bomb your vehicle with survival, firearm decals. Or if you mad Max your bro truck you may indeed be targeted for theft. Keep things simple, fly below the radar, and watch your six.

Truck looks good. I can't quite see but it looks like you have the factory cover. I use the bed mat and cargo nets attached the the rails to keep my stuff from flying around back there.

If you don't have little ones the molle panels that attach to the seats make a good place to store gear.

This stuff is expensive but high quality:

    That should get you thinking.

In my case, I’ve only had 1 person in the backseat since I’ve owned the truck. So I’ve already thought that one through. And it detaches in 2 seconds if someone does need to be back there.

You can’t pack everything. This will GET you what you need on your list, as brought food will run out eventually.

Hunt with this. Start a fire to boil water with this. Process wood to make charcoal to purify water with this. Looking at that pic...you may want a small pot. I left that out dang it.

Small first aid kits with bandaids aren’t going to cut it. Stock your own. Israeli bandages, broad spectrum antibiotic, superglue, and a few thousand ml of hextend/hetastarch and the training to use it.

All of that is first line basic, and will pack away small. You won’t even notice it’s there with all the other daily clutter.

Keep in mind the expiration and storage requirements of things you keep in your truck. It's easy to stock up and feel good about it, but if your supplies are trash after 6 months in a hot truck, you're going to be in bad shape the day you need them.

There isn't any really good way around this for medications (NSAIDs, allergy pills, etc) other than replacing them often. Water also needs to be replaced every few months if stored well (more frequently when not). If you pack distilled water, you can dual-purpose it for cooling systems issues as well. For food, you can stock some marine emergency rations. Those are made to last years in nasty storage conditions. I'm sure they aren't anyone's first pick for dinner, but they pack small and they are food when you're in a bad spot.

Pay attention to how you pack things. When this kind of gear gets packed away for a long time, any movement/vibration between items can cause packaging to chafe/rupture/fail. Checking your gear regularly can catch this.

If you're going through the effort to make up a stock of "emergency" supplies, consider adapting it for everyday problems. Needing a tourniquet is less likely than getting a bug bite, getting a flat tire, or tearing your pants. Also having things on hand to handle those small problems will be handy a lot more frequently and also handy in a big emergency. My trunk kits have evolved to cover all sorts of common problems and come in handy frequently.

    Like, so many.
I keep a go bag behind my back seat. It's got the standard stuff:
    Med kit
    Flashlight
    Knife
    Water
    Food
    Emergency blanket
    Matches
    Wet wipes

I also keep a multi tool, gloves, and handgun in my truck. And of course recovery equipment.
