In my experience going in through the wheel well is not the best technique, at least for the KC Gravitys I installed. Just open the hood and reach in from the top. When you install the light, use masking tape to hold the screw onto the stubby philips. Pay attention because the light mounting tabs are different lengths on opposite sides on the driver and passenger lights, make sure you are installing the left on the left and right on right.

The KC instructions were atrocious but they were threatening to update them a few months ago.

Yes on all counts. To the best of my knowledge there isn't an H11 to H9 adapter. People are buying the H11 extension and trimming it to fit an H9 bulb in order to not alter the factory wiring at all. I just "modified" the H11 extension and it took maybe 30 seconds per extension with a box cutter

 

Well as per post #1144-1145 he used the adaptor to plug in his H9's on his low beams without shaving anything. I wonder if this adaptor is also needed for the high beams, lol?

Let me rephrase: h9's for both low/high bean and h11's for fogs and possibly need to use adaptors for both low/high beams.

 

1144 states they cut the notch. And no adapter is needed for the hi beams, they're already H9's

 

Correct. H9s are already the Highs. Cut a notch in the extension and it's plug and play with an H9 in the lows.

 

Just ordered the KC G4 500 led fogs (clear-no amber) from Summit Racing as per crashnburn80 recommendations. This lighting businesses starting to be pricey!
Summit racing seems to be the only place that has the KC G4 500 fogs with clear, non-Amber LEDs. They (the clear fogs) seem to be back ordered on Amazon and everywhere else.

This is where I picked mine up about a month ago. Carl, at Aventuron, was very helpful with letting me know that the KC HiLites Clear were on back-order and he would send them out as soon as the manufacture had them in. It took about 3 weeks for them to come in.

 

A lot of information in just the first post! I'm looking to compare something to my HIDs, just to see if I like the cutoff/throw of a standard halogen better. If I'm understanding this right, the $8 Phillips H9 bulb is the most recommended bulb for stock wattage? And they're 'better' than the GE +130? And only thing needed to make the H9 fit is to cut the tabs off inside the bulb base, like I did to fit my H9 fog lights...?

 

Correct. However they will not put out more light than your HIDs, but they are far brighter than stock. Whether you like them more is up to you.

Note that H9s in the fogs will produce excessive glare with no glare cap on the bulb, the OEM fogs do a poor job of glare control in general. So if you are running non-capped H9s in the fogs, you should avoid using them with oncoming traffic.

 

Right. I just feel like sometimes I can't see that far with my HIDs because the cutoff is so sharp and if I angle them up more, I'll be blinding oncoming traffic so thats why I wanna try halogens out again. As for my fogs, yeah I don't drive with them on in traffic, especially since I've made the switch to some Baja Designs amber fogs.

 

Common problem where the contrast is too extreme at the cut off that you cannot see beyond it as you are actually hindered by too much light affecting your night vision. Give the Philips H9s a try.

Yeah, the Baja ones are no good for oncoming traffic. Gotta get some selective yellow Rigids or Bajas new SAE fogs due out in June (white only in June).

 

I'm holding off on the KCs , wanting to see the New Bajas.

 

Got em ordered! Can't hurt to try them for $16! I'm eager to see how the SAE ones will work (whole new kit or just a lens I can put on mine now)

 

Quick update. I got the Philips H9's installed yesterday and I really don't mind them coming from my HIDs. Granted I like the color temp. of my HIDs a lot better, but the light output isn't terribly worse, in my opinion. I still feel the bad cutoff affect but I think that's just how the headlights are. The one thing that may keep me on the halogens is not having the HID shake...but we'll see.

so the HID's are somewhat a blue tint i take it or is it just because of the distance creating that effect?
