Like others are saying, gotta read the fine print. The warranty isnt there for silly things like a shifter knob, but bigger items, that if fail, you will be happy you have an extended warranty.

There was a guy on here who had a 2015 and his tranny failed, the extended warranty covered the repair no questions asked. That repair cost was in the thousands, your shift knob is like $20. Helps to keep things in perspective. I would just move on and not let it ruin your day!

Most people dont read. Its usually presented to you in a little room when going through the financials after already being there for 4 hours. My opinion. If youre financially stable it usually make sense not to buy it, as the money youre saving could pay for most if not all of the stuff it covered down the road. Now if you cant ever afford a large repair in 4 years or whatever, it could be beneficial to some. to kind of pay as you. Its a gamble. Ive had friends buy it and theyre transmission blows, well good for them. My first new car i didnt know anybetter, bought a 2200 warranty and never had to use it. On this tacoma, i didnt. so far its been the right decision after 100k (knock on keyboard).

Imo it would have been cheaper to order a new knob on the internet then take the time for them to look at it. But I got better shit to do then let a dealer fuck me to death.

Whatever you're buying a toaster or a car, extended warranties are a waste IMO. Take that money and put it in the bank and only withdraw it for repairs. I bet in the end you'll be ahead.

Ticked about not covering a shifter knob? Hell no. Plus I would never, never buy an extended warranty.

Yea, my kitchen cabinets are rough. That’s a great idea. I bet one of the crackheads around here would clean me out for $20.

I learned long ago never to waste money on extended warranties.

When they want you to sign it’s all promises; when it’s time to get work done it’s never covered.

Even if they end up paying for it, the aggravation and time wasted make it rarely worth it.

People hear "bumper to bumper warranty" and sign the dotted line without actually reading what it covers. Bumper to Bumper does not mean every single item on the truck. If it were a new vehicle you might get them to do it out of sympathy/understanding if they're cool, but this is a 6 year old vehicle we're talking about. Nothing is immune to wear and tear, nothing.

Now if your transmission fails or your oil pump goes out, you'll be happy you have that extended warranty. If they denied a repair like that under the warranty, that would be something to be 'livid' about. Not stitching on a shifter knob.

By the time dealers offer you the extended warranty they have already tenderized you by keeping you waiting around for hours. At that point it’s no surprise many buyers believe the business manager’s promises that the extended warranty will cover many things.

But like I said, I learned over the years that the moment you have a claim, their starting position will most likely be to deny it even if it ends up rightfully covered.

Extended warranty is merely an insurance, which means that denying as many claims as possible is a way to fatten their profits.

They are all 3rd party warranties. The dealer has to file the claim and wait back for approval or denial. Most of the time the dealer would rather the warranty cover the claim. And in a lot of cases they word claims so they will be covered when in reality if the part were to be inspected by an adjuster it would be denied. Simply they want the money even sometimes even at a reduced rate/time for the warranty company. Reason being is if it’s not covered by the warranty they know you may just hold off on the repair or go somewhere else to get it done cheaper.
