It’s some cheap shift knob made overseas in some warehouse not a handcrafted leather item made in a brick and mortar shop with love and care in every stitch.

And since you have a manual you have essentially worn the item out. And as others have pointed out it’s not covered. It is what it is.

Interesting read... we all live and learn... I bought the extended warranty on my '06... only claim I made was a window that was rattling when part way down... after a discussion with the service manager and they saw I was a "regular" they finally took the 30 minutes it required to take it apart and fix it. Last time for extended warranties, last time, fool me once shame on you...

Maybe I’ll say some crack heads broke in and smoked up in my house. Now I have a bunch of smoke damage and the whole thing needs replaced

people get led into thinking these extended warranties will cover you like a factory bumper to bumper, what they dont realize is that almost all extended warranties are NOT covered by toyota themselves, its a third party that has TONS of limitations.

Good luck OP, but man up and just buy a new shift knob.

Buys Toyota for legendary reliability, and buys platinum plus unobtainable Infinity Warranty to cover it.

Warranty sellers be all, these odds are better than running a casino!

It’s like a 30 dollar part at most. It’s not like you dropped a rod...

I read that thread. At least they owned up to it and are fixing the problem. Good on them. Shit happens when working on cars. Anybody that thinks that every job goes perfectly 100 percent of the time has never turned a wrench before. As for this thread I wish my biggest problem in my life was a shift knob.

Never buy the warranty. There’s a reason they’re the highest margin item at a dealer, most owners don’t use them and those who do they can deny a warranty for a myriad of made up reasons.

They will say it normal wear and tear from your hand being on the shifter for 5 years, and therefore not covered.
