I went to the dealer today and said the BRAKE warning comes on everyday for no reason. No cars around me at all and the warning comes on. I ask about a recall and they said that is for a new cover over the grill emblem and not for something not working. They set up a time for a code check and trouble shoot by a tech. THEN ...he says Toyota doesn't like to replace the sensor and has just about stopped doing that. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Is he saying I'll have to live with the malfunction or they will attempt to do something else or what? He said again Toyota doesn't LIKE to replace the sensor. I thought I had a warranty. I didn't like giving $41k for a Toyota truck but it is what it is. Please explain to this old man what he's trying to tell me.:duel:

I said I have another problem. Every once in a while the horn will beep when the truck is in the garage turn off and not running. I said does that have something to do with the security sym. ? He said your truck doesn't have a security sym . " PER SAY ". What is he saying?

Did you get any paperwork showing your complaint and their “resolution”?

What does that mean? I think it means you need a new dealer! If it's malfunctioning and under warranty, it needs to be addressed by Toyota. Don't let them hassle you around. Call Toyota Corporate/Customer Care if you have to.

He’s trying to tell you that Toyota is saying this is normal. It’s Toyota’s go to response when they’re is a concern or issue.

No . I guess I'll get that on the day they want to work on it. All I have is a mileage appointment. I have 3500 and go in at 5000 for a normal check up.

If the truck senses the key is away and its unlocked sometimes it will lock itself and beep. I think in the settings on the deck you can change whether or not it beeps when you lock it and that should stop it from beeping.

The BRAKE issue i have no idea about.

You have a 3rd issue: it is called a dimwit service advisor!

Talk about a useless individual. He repeats like parrot without adding any value to the resolution process. In fact, a parrot would do his job for peanuts. Literally.

Speak to the Service Manager. And if he is cut from the same cloth, it’s time to find another dealer.

    Good luck.

Don't believe a single word any service writer tells you. Service writers are the scum of the world right next to salesmen.

    Yeah.
What he's likely saying is that they suggested to corporate that they replace a sensor under warranty, and corporate disagreed with that plan of action. Corporate wants a better diagnosis, not just replace a part. They want them to do the work to identify that the sensor is what is faulty before throwing parts at it.

You probably don't have an alarm system that honks the horn, although the panic button would cause it to honk like it does have an alarm. It's got a theft deterrent system that doesn't allow it to start unless the proper signal from the fob is present. But random horn honking sounds like your truck has some electrical gremlins -- which are very time consuming to diagnose and require someone well-trained with experience. They generally don't like to do these, and there's probably some negotiation going on between the tech and the dealership as to how many hours he will be paid for (mechanics "flag" hours based on how long a job should take -- do it in less and you can get on to the next job, take longer and your hourly rate takes a dive).

But, none of that is your problem -- you have a warranty, and there is an issue. You need to insist that they fix the problem.

The truck beeps the horn hours after it has been parked in my garage. The Fob has not been touched.

That is the EXACT symptom that the recent TSB is for. I have had it happen 3 times. All were in snow storms. My dealer refused to turn off the sensor. It did get a lot of attention from corporate though. This was before the TSB. I got 4 calls about it, but they wanted the truck for an undetermined amount of time (days or weeks) to investigate. I said no. They said the dealer could turn it off, but that's when they told me they will not disable ANY safety systems. So that dealer will not get my future business.

Unfortunately, it is too common to hear about dealerships giving less than straight answers to their customers. Good advice has been given so far, get your complaint in writing, call corporate if the dealer is hesitant, etc. I will add one more. Call your sales guy and let him know the service department is dampening the previously pleasant experience with your purchase. Often times, these guys can get stuff done in the service department, or at least, tell you which service writers have been responsive with their customers.
Good luck with the issue and please keep us posted.

Yeah but the connectivity radius on the remote is quite large and radio frequencies can bounce around so it could be as simple as if you left your keys on your kitchen table vs left them in your pants in your bedroom, and your truck can't read the remote from everywhere in your house.

If you actually read in the manual, it says something about keeping the remote a certain distance from the vehicle when parked or else it'll drain the fob because they'll communicate constantly.

I also suggest you look in the settings on your deck and see if its set to auto lock after it loses communication with the fob after a set period of time.
