Well, I’ve realized the hard way that you need the metal strips in the OE wipers to use replacement rubber inserts.

Anyone have a 3rd gen pair they’re willing to part with?

I used the strips that came with the PIAA silicone refills I installed. They seem to work fine...

Thanks, Vinci. I feel dumb throwing them away.

My point is that I don't think you're in trouble. You just need to make sure you bought refills that fit. My guess is that your replacements are too narrow and don't fit the wipers.

These wipers need an 8mm wide refill, instead of the more common 6mm. Re-using the original spring strips wouldn't help if your replacements are too narrow. In my case, I am a huge fan of PIAA silicone blades (they last 10+ years in Florida). They only make 8mm wide refills in really long sizes, not in the lengths the Taco uses. So, I just bought the longer blades (8mm wide) and cut them to length. Not much to it and I get to use my preferred part.
