If you position the pedals up they won't be in the way. Your cranks will not be in the way either. When trying to grab the frame of the bike with this device, it's a little on the short side but still manageable. Keep in mind that your bike doesn't have to be completely aligned from front to back to secure it.

Hoping one of you inno velo gripper users are still monitoring this thread... I prefer not to unmount and re-mount... Is there a tonneau cover that works well with these mounted?

UPDATE: It appears RecRac may have finally closed up shop, likely licensing out their designs instead. Inno seems to be the only product available now, which is licensed from RecRac

Yeah that setup is cool and all, but I'm more interested in that Yeti! That thing is gorgeous!

Just ordered these used off Amazon for $60. Hoping it will solve the "aw man, gotta jump up into my lifted truck, take off the front wheel and attach to fork mount on front bed rail" issue. Looks like I can even just do it from the side of the truck without getting up into the bed. Thanks for the review.

Sick! Hey question for you (OP). While I wait for my velo grippers to come in from Amazon... could you only use one of them for the fork, and then turn the rear end sideways and close the tailgate? I do this now with my fork mount on the front rail, and the tire rubbing up against the tailgate makes it so the rear end is still being held tight. That way one could close the tailgate. In theory, it seems it would work?

Yeah, you should be able to do that. My bike has a pretty long wheel base so I start to fight the pedals and stuff if I tried to turn it sideways. I also don't like the pressure it might put on the wheels if I wedged it in there like that... call me a little anal with this Yeti of mine. I started using a "security" bungee cord around the front wheel as a safety precaution.

Also, I now have a side cargo box on the drivers side so I wouldn't be able to swing the rear end far enough to clear the tailgate.

Good to know. Yeah, I have a closeout '18 trek fuel ex 7 that I got for 2k so not as worried as I would be with that Yeti! Also with a long wheelbase. Even still, the pressure on the tire isn't that bad since you have control over how much you can turn the bike and butt it up against the tailgate. Just enough so it stays put... pretty sure the forces on the trail and riding are much greater. But I too, am a little anal with this stuff. I'll give it a try when they come in.

Oh and the best part I'm looking forward to? Is not having to climb in the bed and take the wheel off anymore.

I'm sure it will be fine and I'm sure I'm overthinking it. My main reason for not doing this is because of the cargo box on the drivers side.

Oh, and nice snag on the Trek! My last bike was a 2011 Fuel Ex9... loved that thing.

I made my own version of this with Hondo accessory rail nuts, some threaded rod, and a QuickFist.

I have the same setup, I also use bungee cords just to be extra OCD safe.

Can we get a few close-ups of the attachment pieces? The attachment at the rail and attachment at the bike frame?

Will do! Gimme a few hours.

Basically, Hondo accessory rail t nut, thread lock, four stacked washers and a nulock nut, about 8.5in of M8x1.25 allthread, another nylock and washer at the QuickFist, and a plain nut on the bike side.

I wanted plated allthread, but selection was very limited.

I wish they would thicken QuickFists so that nylocks would fit.

I found the velo gripper RT202 a little difficult to install on my 2017 Tacoma.
First off, it was impossible to fit the square nut into the channel!
Called the company they "never heard" of this problem.
I had to detach the thingy at the end of the channel & run the nut up to where I wanted it.
Then you have to align the other part with the nut & wedge something behind the nut so you can start the threads.
It took a lot of monkeying to get the other parts flat on the top of bed and yes the posts with the rachet ends are just about long enough
