Someone ran their Honda into back of my 96 Tacoma the other day when in 'drive-tru' line.
I noticed she was pretty close, looking down, obviously texting not paying any attention, then boom, right into my bumper. Messed her older Honda up a little, no real damage to mine.

Thank god, I wasn't driving my 2018 with camera, sensors and such.
Couple days later I stop at a Stop light in my 2018 and here comes this guy creeping up to within about 6" of my back bumper.

I'm done with it and got one of these. Great please to tie-up a tow strap when needed as well.

Turn it over, should keep cars AND trucks from bumping you as well in parking lots.

Won’t change anything, just means you will be taking their bumper with you when they hit.

You do what you want. But Fyi if someone rear-ends you doing like 15-25 mph that is going to act like a lever and bend the frame

Cause people suck. No other explanation needed. Inatentive drivers are far more dangerous than DUI these days.

your trailer hitch attachment may actually cause more damage to your truck. When that gets hit, the force will transfer directly to your frame.

The force always goes directly to the frame. Unless you attach the bumper to the wheels (please don't do that).

Edit: guess I'll expand on that.
The only thing about crumple zones is they transfer the forces slower. Which people care about, but steel doesn't. Once the crumple starts, it absorbs what it's designed to absorb.

I'd like to get one of those, but I too am concerned about an increase in frame damage if a rear impact does occur.

Years ago I was on the L.A. Harbor Freeway when the traffic comes to a stop. I see on my rear view mirror a Prius about 300 yards away barreling towards me at about 40 MPH. The driver has his head down staring towards his crotch. I relaxed my body; pressed my head against the headrest; released the brake pedal and braced for impact. He didn’t lift his head until just one split second before he disappeared under my spare tire....and BAAAMMM!

The front of his car wedged itself under the weight of my Jeep: my hitch cut his hood in half like a tin can; then pushed his radiator, electric motor and engine against his firewall. Thankfully, most of the energy was absorbed pushing my Jeep up and his car down against the pavement. All his airbags deployed.

In fairness to the 30-year old, his first question was ask “are you okay?” He denied having been texting. I said “I saw you for 300 yards; you didn’t see where you were going once.” His response was “my breakfast fell between my legs” LOL

Not sure the point of your comment.

Of course the bumper is connected to the frame, and yes if hit hard enough the impact still transfers to the frame. That is the whole point of having a bumper, so it ABSORBS the impact and potentially saving the frame.

I think he means that while a body-on-frame vehicle may show little damage in the traditional sense, because the energy travels along the length of frame, more serious damage may have taken place than the naked eye can see.

That’s what I discovered after-the-fact following that rear end hit: the Prius was visibly totaled; my Jeep barely showed a scratch. Months later, a bent transmission mount emerged. At that point the insurer refused to pay any more.

For the very slight risk of frame damage, I would just get another truck.

I can validate this. Got rear ended by a girl going 20 two weeks ago, completely totaled her car and it seemed like minimal damage to my car as you can see here. But today I just found out my frame is buckled and bent and might be totaled & I'm out of a car for 3 months

Note: I didn't have a hitch or anything attached. Just the stock receiver
