What have you made/created today?

Made this suncatcher today as a gift for someone in a facebook group I'm in after sending the linework to make sure it looked good to her. She lost her daughter and was looking for artists to make her some robin memorabilia.

My first completed cutting board made with walnut and poplar wood.
It's roughly 8"x10" so it'll be a good cheese board or something.

Yes.. the grains are meant to be wonky!

Well... I don't know. I've had a bunch of people ask me if I was selling them...haha this is the first one I've made.. I have part of another one started.
I'm not sure I'd want to duplicate this one without a planer... I put too many hours into sanding it.
I'm open to opinions on planers and any other information anyone wants to share.

 

Can’t really use a planer to finish end grain cutting boards anyhow it tends to blow chunks outta the workpiece

Some people make a router sled, but a drum sander is tops here lol

 

or you will blow the piece out of the planer at warp speed... I built myself a router sled and that works. I'd like to get a large belt sander but too much $$

 

Not today, but custom vanity and counter top. Counter top is epoxy.

I started with this... Super simple project..but I made some changes .. I used ¾ MDF for the sled... If I made it again I would use ¾ for it all. I also made the side to side guides taller to hold the rails better. If anyone is confused by that I can take more pictures

 

Finished up the cart for the Primeweld Cut60 plasma cutter I bought last week. All scrap from around the garage, except for the Harbor Freight tires/wheels.

@Crodell6 can you spot the re-purposed appliance part?



I designed it to place all the weight on the rear axle so the swivel casters would pivot easily. They do. Also added the braided cable to control the "bounce" of the unsupported front.


The holster makes a good leash to move the cart.

 

I just finally got my own welder. My brother stated that half the fun is building your own cart. I said nah, I'm just going to buy a HF one for $30. You are seriously making me reconsider

 

Yeah, it's a chance to be a little creative. You also learn some things along the way. My first cart was for my welder. I used one of those old wooden top school desks (top was gone) that I had been using as a parts washing sink. I turned it long ways, cut one end out so my leads could exit, and added wheels. I used an old industrial fire extinguisher holder base and strap for the argon tank mount. It has been in service now for a long time.

 

I like the creative part, but I also like just getting one. I have too many pots on the fire as it is. I've been welding (hobbyist) for 20 years. Always used my uncles as I never had a place to put my own or the power available. Made many cool things over the years, including our wedding centerpiece's and card box. Trailer, lawn roller, Ford 9N bucket refurb, omg I can't remember them all. Nice to have my own finally.
