Seems like the OP should be talking to this guy

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/i-made-some-custom-shift-knobs.610866/

Personally I NEVER buy an extended warranty, as may have said they are a waste of money. Take would you would have paid for the warranty and put it in the bank. Then when you do have a problem there's cash on hand to deal with it. Over time there will be more cash because extended warrantees are sold to make money for the "insurance" company. There's no reason why you shouldn't be the one keeping the money.

This thread is great. I'd not even notice the thread was worn through for another 6 years. Lol.

Not real good to have a firearm stolen from your vehicle though. Lots of questions of why it was there and how long. But good to know they will cover that. Hopefully someone comes in and steals my ex wife’s wedding ring. They will cover that as well

I think judging by the reaction to the torn stitching, this might be the smallest issue in OP’s life.

Warranty is for mechanical or electrical failures. Or something the factory may have assembled incorrectly. A shift knob wearing out is probably going under the "normal wear" category like tires and brakes.

the part is apx. $45 retail, how much dealer cost is, I don't know. The fact that they pissed you off for sub $40 shows that you are dealing with armatures at this dealership. The service manager has it within his discretion for a certain $ amount of "good will" and if it went the other way you would be on here praising this dealer for replacing a 5 year old worn shift knob for free, unfortunately it didn't go that way... they just bought themselves a million $ worth of bad press for $40.

My steering wheel is slightly worn at the 12 o’clock position on my 2012. I should sue for a brand new truck

Did this when the stitching on my 2010's knob went bad. Only a 12 ball instead of 8.

My only complaint is sometimes the sun hits that shiny party just right and blinds me. I keep meaning to paint it black.
