The ball is on the vehicle
The small part is on the phone- which is the magnet.
You can also put the phone onto any metal surface (if magnets stick, not stainless, alum, etc).

Only problem with this setup which I found out is the magnet is on the phone, SOOO if your
credit card comes close to the magnet, the magnet will wipe out the credit strip and the credit card will not work. Had to order a new card because of this.

I need to find another setup like this but with the magnet on the mount NOT on the phone.

Gotta love pioneer. I’ve had a magnetic phone mount and by far this trick has worked better.

Or, if you wear a mechanical watch and the magnet contacts the watch for any time, your spring will become magnetize and the watch will cease keeping proper time, requiring service...I had to send a SINN watch in for a $400 service for a similar mistake.

I'm not a huge fan of mounting anything to vent fins. Not only blocking the air but they are not designed to handle any force except the force of whooshing air. I still prefer my ghetto suction cup thing.

I went with the Ram X-Grip, based on recommendations of others on this forum. I don't care for the LHS mount though, so I screwed mine directly to the center faceplate so as not to interfere with any of the controls or vents. It's not pretty, but neither is my truck...it is very functional. Phone has not fallen out yet.

usually the magnet is in the mount and the adhesive disc is just thin steel so no affect on your cc's.
